I wonder how they stay in business if their coffee is so overpriced?

I think convience has something to do with it. I never went there until they opened a stand right in the middle of the grocery store; I'll pick up a drink there periodically now.

Here in the town I live in, there are literally 2 Starbucks in the very same shopping center. shrug I just don't understand the logic of having that kind of competition. And my town is over saturated with all kinds of coffee houses not just Starbucks. Either way, I rarely ever visit...I prefer tea to coffee.

At the Pioneer Place mall in downtown, there are two Starbucks in that mall. One on the main and one of the third floor.

There is a shopping center in Pasadena, Texas with a Starbucks inside a Target, and a Starbucks in a shopping center in front of it.

And across the street, there is another shopping center with a Barnes and Noble, with a Starbucks in it.

And lastly, just down the street in yet another shopping center, yep, another Starbucks.

There is only one Starbucks in my city. There are two Gloria Jean's though. Plus the area has its own local franchise called "Buzz" Coffee.
I perfer to support the family owned coffee shop anyway.

In the Lloyd Center mall in Portland,
there are two Starbucks.

One is on the main floor
and the other is inside a Barnes & Noble on the second.

Much of starbucks' economic problems are self-inflicted. In many areas, they have an absolutely ridiculous amount of saturation.

Further to my post on the Edinburgh situation yesterday, I felt compelled to write another one expanding on that.

I was just looking at the Starbucks store finder, which brings up sixteen Starbucks in Edinburgh. The site is obviously out of date because I can think of four other Starbucks cafes in the city.

This gives the city, in a population of 430,000, at least TWENTY Starbucks cafes.

Beat that for Starbucks market saturation.

Like the US our economy is supposed to be faltering yet Starbucks continue to open shops apace here.

That's not even the half of all the coffee shops in Edinburgh (Costa, Nero, Beanscene etc.)

Edinburgh has the headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland. It alone has TWO Starbucks.

Sentiments were expressed the day after one of the recent Starbucks openings, when the words 'ANOTHER ONE?!' and below that a frowning face were graffitied on the outside of the cafe.

I work in Glasgow and there are 4 Starbucks in the city centre just within a few hundred yards of each other.Don't think they'll keep them all open either when they're competing with so many similar businesses.

Here's a good and accurate commentary on Starbucks.
