J'adore Nightwish.
I used to hate Annette, but now, honestly, I think that she is a better "fit" in terms of the timbre of her voice with Marco's. She doesn't work for some (potentially all) of their older songs, but the songs that were written once she joined suit her just fine. Also, Tarja uses way too much rubato for my taste.
One of my favorites of theirs is, While Your Lips Are Still Red. Look it up. It is quite good.
Veresae, have you ever heard/seen Simone Simons, of Epica? You might like her... . I'm not as fond of Epica as I am of Nightwish, but she is quite good, although not as theatrical as Tarja.
Everyone here knows that Tarja has an album of her own now, right?
And how many Nightwish fans think that Tuomas and Tarja were lovers at some point? Evidence, no matter how fragile, is welcome.
Oh my darling St. Tuomas...What a tortured soul. And such pretty hair, too. _________________ Check out my DIY "gothic" fashion website www.freewebs.com/edwardviolahands ! |

I like that best of their post-"Once" stuff because it doesn't have Annette. XD I agree, it's a good song.

Epica's never really been my thing. I tried, but for some reason I just can't get into them.

She has two, "Henkäys ikuisuudesta" (which had waaay too many covers of Christmas songs--the only song I liked on it was her cover of "Ave Marie"), and "My Winter Storm" (which I felt was quite lovely, and more like symphonic metal, but it was very SAFE and doesn't hold up for TOO many repeated listens).

The open letter to Tarja from Nightwish: http://www.nightwish.com/en/article/6
I don't think they were ever lovers, per say, but I think it's possible Tuomas had a thing for her. I get a semi-jealous feel from the letter, especially by the way it keeps bringing up her husband. Some of the lyrics for "By Bye Beautiful," even the fact that he's calling her beautiful in the title at all, are interesting:
BYE BYE BEAUTIFUL Lyrcis
"How blind can you be, don't you see?"
"Noose around a choking heart..."
"...Someday I’ll learn to love these scars, still fresh from the red-hot blade of your words." |

omg Nightwish just rocks... I like them, Evanescence, Delain, Within Temptation (and there was one other band but I just cannot remember them right now.) _________________ *Christina*

People, don't forget The Gathering. Anneke van Giersbergen has the most impressive vocal reach of any female vocalist in the hardrock/metal style. Her voice is almost too good to be true, and the band's prog rock era is very interesting. _________________ Keep it flaming your desire, always rising high, aim for stars and hit the sky!

Longterm Nightwish fan... love their music.
If you like them, also try out Within Temptation, Epica and Sonata Arctica. Seen the latter live with another Wp member and they are brilliant. |

Lacuna Coil are a great band. Their best song by far IMO is "Stars". Such a hopeful and romantic song. The combination of female and male vocals works very well for them. They should more often sing in their native Italian though, they only have a few songs in Italian but I really like the sound of it.
Don't forget After Forever if you want female-fronted metal with opera-esque vocals. Floor Jansen, their vocalist, is very talented and some of their albums have an ethereal/oriental touch to it. _________________ Keep it flaming your desire, always rising high, aim for stars and hit the sky!

| riseabove wrote: | | Nice Discovery! Yeah Nightwish and countless other bands dont get alot of publicity here in the us, including the underground scenes. They swing from symphonic to gothic metal. If u like them that much i have quite a bit of other similar bands to recommend like : Apocalyptica , epica , moonspell , the gathering , my dying bride , therion, and theres definately more. |
Don't forget rhapsody of fire! |
