I think it is always wrong and yet it is often allowed to continue. Does anyone have any ideas how it can be stopped? I don't think any child should ever have to be bullied again.

Bullying in childhood compromises a child's abilities to cope as adults, causes emotional damage, personality disorders, aberrant behaviours.

YES IT IS VERY SERIOUS!

Why not have something like "The No Child Left Behind Act" that is formulated to put an end to bullying in the schools?

"The No Child Will Ever Get Bullied Again Act"?

Please, everyone get serious and stop this sort of thing from happening to our kids in the schools.

It won't happen. As I've said before, schools have a vested interest in bullying continuing. Not only does it force unpopular kids to try and fit in better (or destroy them one way or another and remove them from the school), but it gives the bullies the skills and confidence to gain later positions as businessmen and politicians.

No one ever became unsuccessful by treating others badly.

I would realy like to remove bullying, all I need to do is to remember what it was like and I get deeply angry. Sadly a great deal of politicians were not bullied, or may have been bullies themselves, the most anoying phrase is that it is character building. The b@sterds how would they like to be bullied, it can destroy a childs mental state, and many people do not understand.

Those who say it's "character building" were obviously never serious targets of bullying. It's complete and utter BS. They are too stupid to realize that bullies only go after specific individuals and mostly leave the rest alone. The vast majority don't have to deal with it nearly as much.

I would love to see bullying eradicated but I don’t think this will ever happen. People make too many excuses for it, it would involve too much effort for most people and I think there is a certain amount of vested interest on the part of schools.

Sad I was always punished for complaining about the bullies... some children can take it, others can't.

What bothered me the most looking back at my school records was the fact that they insisted I was not bullied but instead I was shizo and hearing voices...

All it really takes is time.I had bullies in middle and high school that were just horrible to me because of my eccentricities. It got to the point where I would be scared of going to school.

But

A couple years after high school graduation (when they had matured) it was like night and day.I had a couple go out of their way to apologise to me.It was strange to see the school tough guy asking me for forgiveness. One of them I actually became really good friends with and still am to this day.

The best way to eradicate school bullying is prevention, notification, and enforcement.

1. Prevention: Most bullying and harassment is caused by intolerance of difference. Students who engage in peer abuse can do so for any reason (different values, ethnicity, after school activities, or basically anything) or in some cases the entire school if the person does not fit into the dominant culture of the school. American schools ought to have course in human and cultural diversity.

2. Notification: Schools should be required to notify the bullied child's parents and the perpetrator's parents if a incident is found out to be bullying. Schools would also have a responsibility to record every incident that is considered bullying.

3. Enforcement: If any bullying incident involves anything other than simple theft or assault, school administrators should file a police report as soon as possible. We have juvenile justice laws, let's use them against the functional sociopaths!

If a school derelicts in it's duty to prevent or suppress school harassment of bullying, the victims should be allowed to sue the school, and get any court rewards needed to recover from school harassment, including punitive damages. Make the vicitm exempt from compulsory attendance laws too.
