Being stuck in an IM conversation with someone who's talking to me about movies, I am totally lost and out of my depth, which inspired me to come on WrongPlanet and start this topic.
When it comes to movies I must appear totally clueless, and indeed I know the square root of nothing. When I am stuck in a conversation, offline or like at the moment online with a film buff, I must seem totally empty and certainly my knowledge of the subject is in a total vacuum.
I am sure a great many Aspies muse be film buffs and surely it is a special interest for a great many Aspies. But is anyone else - anyone - in the same situation as me? |

I'd say I'm in same boat. I love movies, own several hundred, and have most likely seen over 1000 movies by now which is more than a lot of people but far less than lots of others I'm sure.
I don't think much about movies I've seen, at least not in an expressive way I could talk about. I watch for entertainment only, I don't break it down and evaluate every nuance. I don't have favorite quotes, phrases, and scenes and what they mean to me and how they make me feel and the impact or lack thereof they have on the world of film or anything. It probably makes me shallow, but I don't have much to talk about movies beyond listing the ones I really like and the ones I really hate. I can't really tell you why I liked/hated a movie, in a way that I'd be satisfied explaining.
You could say I'm more emotive than thinking when it comes to movies, I guess. I definitely couldn't get a job as a critic. _________________ The world under heaven, after a long period of division, tends to unite; after a long period of union, tends to divide. This has been so since antiquity. |

Hmm. I definitely have a more emotive than cognitive response. Though I do love an incredibly oddly edited movie. _________________ "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls..." |

Exactly how I feel. For some reason the majority of films just don't stick in my mind and if you asked me what happened in a film I saw last week I really couldn't tell you in much detail, other than whether I liked it or not.
I like it that way though as it means I can watch the same films and notice completely different scenes or lines I had forgotten about. My attention span for films is minuscule and if it doesn't capture me instantly my mind starts to wander. Most of the time I don't bother with films unless they will make me howl with laughter. |

| I'm a huge film buff. But I know what you mean. I rock at Trivial Pursuit, I can totally score like all the pie pieces but 1 in a few turns. But sports and leisure is my bane! Damn you, green pie! |

I love movies SO SO SO much^^, I try to go to the cinema at least once a week and I'm always buying dvds. I'm in the middle of collecting the Ghibli collection right now, only have 8 so far though. I strongly suggest Ghibli films to anyone, you will be pleasantly surprised with how the stories can keep you watching. _________________ Living my own way |

Irony fans should note how quickly the topic has changed from being stuck in a one-sided discussion about film to being a discussion about film.
Proving that Keeno has drawn the wrong opinion on the whole "films are awesome Y/N" debate? |

My BF loooooooooves anime (I don't like to watch films, drawn or not) and so I often find myself in one-sided 'discussions'. I just nod and listen, occasionally taking things completely wrong. _________________ I am no native speaker. Please contact me, if I made grammatical mistakes in the posting above.

I'm a huge film buff but feel the way you do about things like sport.

| anyone else like to watch the same movies over and over again? this is something i did especially as a kid, but even now i usually find it more enjoyable to rewatch a movie than to see a new one. maybe that's because most new movies aren't as good as the best old ones. |

I love films they are one of my obsessions but I get easily frustrated and angry with people when talking about them. I like talking about the technicality of the film, the themes, what the director was trying to achieve etc.
If I am met with talk of how 'hot' actors are or anything like that then it really annoys me, like all the talk of the new batman film, anyone would think it was Heath Ledger the movie, its about Batman, not Heath Ledger, he just happens to have died while making it.
So while I love films so much, and I own over 500 I find it hard to talk about them without the other person getting annoyed at me taking it personally. |

I like movies, today I am going to see Kungfu panda, I have already seen Get smart and Hancock. One of my sad relisations lately is that some movies I loved have become a bit dated, sudenly the Matrix movies are not as good as I remembered. _________________ They're sinking cities with a GIANT WOOOOORM!!!!

Movies are one of my obsessions So I get "Uhhh...okay...I don't know who directs what movies and why I should care." a lot

Oh yeah I guess it's sort of putting the shoe on the other foot.
