Since my involvement with the Spanish department my last years in college, I have wanted to be a translator owing to my fascination with languages. My advisor, who was also the instructor of some of the courses I took, said I had a good grasp of the language.
With that in mind, I decided to look into graduate school. Tuition, fees and other financial worries aside, I feel as though grad school would be an opportunity to gt to where I want ot go in life. Also, I think it would be a chance to try and do what I couldn't do academically as an undergrad (e.g., getting study groups together and what not.) I think this would be doable because the material would be harder, and there would be social beneifts, too.
Any thoughts here?

| im no help here but maybe try the work environment first but then again it is good to be looking while still in school so im looking into it a bit but i couldnt say whats worth what i could go back to my same school and you never know what youll get it wont be a breeze and if not id rather it be worthwhile so i offer no answers as well as no good questions for you hah but good luck and go giants |

If you can afford it, go for it.
Grad school means the chance to teach classes for lazy professors.

Grad school is slightly different from Undergrad school in that its more research oriented and less classroom oriented. (This depends on which department you are studying in though. Majors in english or math typically spend the first few years class-room bound while those in biological sciences go to the lab right away.) Still, if you like undergrad school you will probably enjoy grad school as well - many aspies seem to. Perhaps talk to a few grad students at the schools you wanna look at, just to be sure its the right choice for you.
I've read that many with AS prefer being perpetual students. What is that, and how do I become one?  |

The other night, I e-mailed the department head about his office hours. I am going to e-mail him tonight and set up an appointment.
Good advice, BTW. Also, the university I have been looking at is the University at Albany (SUNY Albany, or UAlbany for short), as it has a graduate program in Spanish and is close to my place of work, which is located in the nearby village of Colonie, New York.

I think grad school would be great if you have the want and will to do it.
I look very forward to (as well as dread) graduate school... I must be prepared to give over my life to my professors, hehehe.
What degree exactly would you be going for?

I went to grad school and did very well. It's much different than undergrad and much better in my opinion. Yes there was more research and more writing of papers yet less nonsense with pain in the butt class mates whose biggest plan in life was to be intoxicated.
Most professors know that while you ar ein grad school you probably have a job and maybe a family. They are more understanding of these commitments as long as the work in done on time.

Whoa. What grad school did you go to? I wanna go there. My mother loves to regale me with horror stories of heartless grad school profs whose main belief in life is that their class is the ONLY one you're taking.
