IT, definately, though the book (as always) was much better. A lot of the stuff in the book wouldn't have made it to the tv movie, plus they lost the whole Lovecraftian elements of the book.
The Stand, see above minus the Lovecraft.
Pet Cemetary, not the horrible sequal.
The Dead Zone, because you have to love the Walken.

Unfortunately I've never read the book yet, but i'm looking forward to reading it.
I agree, The first Pet Cemetary is far better than the crappy second one.
Do you know any new Stephen King's movies coming out in the up-coming years?  |

I think my favorite adaptations were Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption. Stand By Me was up there too, as was DreamCatcher (the first 3/4, before they screwed up the ending). On this list I voted for Carrie just because it's the most "classic" of all of them. I actually like the film version of the stand, it was mildly butchered but nonetheless well done for a made-for-tv movie.
I HATED rose red though! HATED it!!!! ((Possibly because of how the autistic girl was portrayed? And all the other actors too.))

Well, I'm not a huge fan of Stephen King novels into films. But my three favorites are The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, and Misery (at least I think Misery's a Stephen King book).

Nothing can beat the Shining, but the Shawshank Redemption is pretty good.
1408 is a great short story in his latest Nightmares and Dreamscapes collection (Everything's Eventual, rather -- thanks, Serissa). Vintage King, and I think it's up there with "Survivor Type" as one of his few genuinely disturbing pieces of writing. I don't think any director has ever nailed King's horror atmospherics yet, but I've got my fingers crossed.

Actually it's from Everything's Eventual (I checked). It connectes to a certain part in the Dark Tower series, too (now THAT would be a heck of a movie undertaking!) |
