Sounds reasonable. Your subconscious mind is taking over and you just can't stand the fact that your friend is happy while you are miserable. I used to feel the same way whenever whichever friends I was with happily chatted away while ignoring me or talking about me like I wasn't there.

Still sounds like the subconscious mind seeping into your conscious thoughts and you feeling guilty over it, kind of like having a dream about a taboo subject.

You know you would never consider it and are repulsed by it in reality but in your dreams your subconscious mind, that you have no control over, decides to take over and explore whatever the topic is and then you wake up remembering the dream and it makes you feel horrible, icky and weird, not to mention totally wretched and miserable...beyond redemption.

Unfortunately this is part of the human condition and it is not uncommon to be jealous of other people's good fortune or happiness. Key is what you do with that jealousy. Most people think it's a good idea to confront the jealousy and not let it control your life because this has lead to many a downfall.

Maybe it's OCD, having a strange/negative thought that you have no control over. Like the thought of doing something to someone but in reality you know you wouldn't really do it.

It's only OCD if the thoughts take up a lot of your time, because most people have weird thoughts sometimes.

Sounds a bit like my reaction to other people's happiness. Especially in my case, just seeing a yellow sticker smiley face, just pisses me off. "What does that sticker have to be so happy about?" I'll think. I'll seriously get angry because how come the sticker gets to enjoy existing and I don't?

I know it's kind of crazy and illogical to feel that way about an inanimate object... but it's a symbol, like a true smile on a person's face, of something I want to feel and experience for myself but for whatever reason at the time, cannot. (Not that I feel this way all the time, past few years I've gotten better and I guess happier overall, but in middle school and high school I would always be seriously peeved by the very image of a smile.)

If I were religious, I'd probably blame my thoughts on the devil.

I was watching a movie with a friend when I noticed that my friend had a smile on his face, because, obviously, he was having a good time. Instead of feeling glad for him for being happy, a few nasty thoughts, which I won't mention here, passed through my mind. I immediately decided not to entertain those thoughts and did my best to share my friend's moment of joy.

But why did the nasty thoughts pass through my mind? Why? Sad

(Sometimes I feel like a waste of space.)

I know what you mean. I have thoughts that go through my mind that are just mean spirited and completely uncalled for. I am a religious person myself but I don't blame the devil. I think that sometimes we have mean spirited thoughts because we're simply jealous subconsciously. If I know people are having a good time while I'm not I get very cranky and mean. Its hard for me to watch people have a good time and not feel the same way.

Don't feel bad about yourself because of these thoughts. As long as you don't allow them to change who you are or how you treat other people they're just meaningless. Its like when you have a dream where you do something really bad and out of character. You'd never actually do it. Your mind is just messing with you.

If these thoughts really do make you sad and feel "like a waste of space" you should talk to someone about them. A friend or a parent or anybody really. Everyone has thoughts like that. It doesn't make you a bad person. Being hard on yourself about them is only going to make those thoughts worse. And nothing is wrong with your thoughts.

Along the lines of negative emotions towards the other person. It's almost as if his happiness bothered me Sad.

I hate to say it, but I have had the SAME, EVEN with someone I like! Still, I wouldn't do anything to hurt the relationship, and know better.

At one time there was a watertower in this town that had the words "Moore Says Smile America" and a smiley face with the American flag inside painted above it. I used to know someone who wanted to punch that smiley face in the nose every time she saw it. It annoyed her that much.

I won't even punch someone when they DESERVE it! 8-( I certainly won't if they don't deserve it.

This was a watertower she wanted to punch, not even a person. That's why it was so ridiculous. Someone decided to put that smiley face on the tower with the corny phrase "Moore Says Smile America" underneath. Apparently she didn't feel like smiling. Or maybe she didn't think this place was smile-worthy. Who knows?

I wouldn't punch anyone either mostly because I am not a good hitter and they would be pissed that I punched them and then turn around and try to kill me.
