it's always disturbing to hear car drivers saying things like that. Who gives a sh** if bicyclists are smug and if they think they're better? At least they can't kill you with tons of steel going at 60 mph.

And here you're trash talking the one who isn't f***ing up this planet by needlessly burning what little oil we have left just to go 10 yards down the road. And you're really mad because the city planners were too dumb to put a bike lane (or *gasp* a bike trail) on the street. When I'm in the car, I never get pissed off at pedestrians or cyclists because I'm not stupid enough to forget the fact that I have side air bags, 2 tons of steel, and the momentum that goes with it protecting me from someone who poses no threat and could be killed in an instant if I made one mistake.

I'm sure they wished there wasn't a car riding their tail just as much as you wish they weren't on the road. deal with it and stop complaining.

I don't care what those greasy, thin, vegan bastards think!

Of course, mountain bikes are a bit different...

cyclists get a lot of hate because of the ones who do bad things/break the laws, they are definitely not all like that, and there are cyclists who will hate the bad ones just as much as Spokane Girl does because they get classed as the same.

dad is a ex driver and cyclist [mountain bike, not motor] and would never break the laws, for someone who is very rule following,he has had a lot of problems with his choice of getting around because of the treatment from some drivers, and walkers who walk on the cycle paths when there is a path for them right next to it.

am not a driver, but am a daily car user [through NAS and rental] and am waiting to get own ford focus through the motability scheme-am dont hate any road users apart from the really bad ones who cause problems or insurance raise for others, all road users with any form of transport are just trying to get somewhere, also, its only the motor types of transport that are forced to take any lessons to use,so if there are people out there who cant use a non motor form of transport without messing it up,it is probably because they've no idea how to use it.
maybe there needs to be tests needed to use them.

I hear ya'll.

I bike five miles daily in two directions, to and from work.

and I have to deal with drivers who really need to learn the rules of the road.

okay. so I'm not perfect either. I do a few things a bit against the law myself, so as I can make it to work on time.

But I'm still safe.

""" At least they can't kill you with tons of steel going at 60 mph.""

Yes they can, bicyclists cause accidents. I crashed badly because of a moron
on a bike riding in to the road in front of me. I went off the road in an attempt
to avoid him, he had no problems, but he made some real big ones for me. I
had a choice, run the idiot down or try to save him at my own cost. so i tried
to save him and almost got killed for it, you tell me the logic behind that. They
might not be controlling the tons of steel, but they can make it crash by not
using their heads. And theres no one saving anything by riding a bike, not unless
we can switch boats and planes with bikes, so thats just doesn`t work, it`s like
a drop of water in the atlantic occean and just something bicyclists use as an argument
to do whatever they want in traffic and feel good about it. Or, they dont know what
they are talking about.

I hate bicyclists too, especially living in a bike friendly city like Seattle. There are a number of major arterials here that cyclists insist on riding on during rush hour, often 2 or 3 abreast, causing a massive slowdown and traffic hazard. I even had one on a state highway the other day with a posted 45mph limit and this yahoo is doing maybe 25 and causing a whole lane of traffic to have to swerve around him. It may be a case of the bad behavior of a few reflecting poorly on the many, but I would argue that in that case it is on the responsible cyclists to reign in the irresponsible ones. Till then, I will treat them all like the menace to proper driving that they are.

Feel i should underline i dont hate bikers, i dislike the
bad ones that puts other peoples lifes in danger on the
roads. For example the one that made me go off the road
badly, for one reason only, to save him from paying for the
mistake he just made. Yeah, makes sense.... Confused I just dont
see why i should take a bullet for a random guy messing up.

Thats the thing with it, if a biker messes up in traffic, theres a
big chance someone else will pay for it, because its human
nature to try and avoid hitting someone. You never think about
what happens if you stear away, you just do it. And then you`re
dead and the guy on the bike can continue his journey.

For your information, I take public transportation, I only drive at least once a week or every other week. Not good to let your car sit and never use it. I had to go to The Dollar Tree and carrying all that stuff on the bus would be hard. My right arm got sore anyway as I walked to my car. We can't even take those shopping carts out of the store because they lock right when you get to the door.
If I were riding a bicycle I would always move aside to let cars by if they were behind me driving slow because they couldn't go around me. The guy did turn around and saw me and knew I was there. Just took him a little while to finally move aside and let us all by.

Yes we do have bike trials here in the city but not all places have them. Heck even bicyclists have gotten hit by cars here. I would guess it's because people get impatient or the bicyclists aren't paying attention so they get in front of the car and the driver didn't have time to stop.
At least I kept my eye on them and watched them making sure I don't hit them. I would hate to hit someone. I also know to never speed up to beat the bicyclist to the intersection and then turn because they can crash into you. That's why I stopped and didn't turn until the guy yelled "Go!"

Yeah I hate bad ones too, I don't hate all bikers. There are good ones who will let you go by them by getting out of your way, who will watch for other traffic and not try and beat you to something like to an intersection and turning where you can crash into them because you didn't have time to stop.

I should also add I hate some drivers too because some of them also get impatient and cause car wrecks. Or they speed, cut you off, run through a red light or stop sign, etc. Also part of impatience and they can all cause an accident.

Bicyclists are not only dangerous (scientific fact; the roads where I am aren't built for them and they do it for recreation exclusively), they are also jerks (largely conjecture on my part; the spandex is bad enough, but is it really so much to ask that they stay on the shoulder, when it exists, rather than riding on the white line on a narrow twisty 50mph road?)

I don't drive. I ride the bus or walk. And bicyclists can and do cause wrecks when they don't follow the rules of the road, and the majority of them in my area don't follow the rules.

One of my co-workers hit a cyclist with her car and was in turn hit by another car. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt, but she had to have the damage to her car repaired and was so shook up that she had to go home for the day. Since she holds a key position, the entire company was affected. All because the cyclist zipped out in front of her car.

Alex, it's not so much about cyclists - I ride a bike sometimes too - as it is about the asshole cyclists. In my city there's even an ad campaign aimed at these dangerous cyclists - share the road. They do cause accidents by making cars swerve to avoid them. It's not all cyclists: just really the ones wearing spandex, riding in tandem with waterbottles for a fifteen minute trip, making as though it's some Olympic event. Those smug bastards who weave through traffic, ride up on the sidewalk (illegal here), and zip inbetween lanes. The ones who think they're special just because the ride bikes, but fail to understand the bicycal is classed as a vehicle, yet they consistently break the law and endanger everyone on the road. In fact; as I was writing this, I recieved a call from my parents. They were just in a car accident. They're fine; though my dad has to be treated for shock. It wasn't a cyclist; it was an old person, but it does demonstrate the dangers of the road if anybody ffails to pay the utmost attention, that includes cyclists. It might be different for other cities, but not for mine.

You know, I've heard that most Aspies don't like Alex Plank, and after his post, I can kinda see why.
