I have been taking a small dose of Equasym now for a few weeks (10mg). I have found it helps with concentration and motivation. The only problem is when it wears off late afternoon I get an insatiable craving for lager! So this med is a double-edged sword!! I've begun drinking a lot more i.e 4-5 times per week. It's a worrying trend. Has anyone else experienced this side effect with stimulant meds?

Any feedback would be gratefully received.

The sorts of people who require Ritalin are increasingly likely to have substance abuse problems however ... I've seen studies which suggest that Ritalin helps individuals make better (more thought-out) choices.

Hence people on Ritalin are less likely to be substance abusers than those who would benefit from Ritalin but do not take it.

post them, i've read that it reduces harmful activities (substance abuse, crime, etc.) in people with adhd.

i find i crave alcohol more when i don't take it than when i do. i don't think i crave it more after i come down than before though.

I have heard that Ritalin can increase anxiety and if that is the case, that could be why there is an increase of substance abuse? I have ADHD and this is why my psych did not want to put me on Ritalin because my anxiety is bad enough. I am taking a drug that is similar to Strattera and its helping some (not as much as I would like but there is a difference)

Before I was diagnosed with AS, I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 7.

I've been on Ritalin since I was 8.
I think I'm kinda' addicted to it now or something. Confused
