FYI for those wondering Iceland and Greenland were sort of misnamed.

Iceland is actually quite nice its Greenland that's all frozen tundra and roaming polar bear gangs on snowmobiles.

My husband and I make fun of this a lot... why in the world was Iceland named Iceland since there is civilization there, and the place can have some nice weather...and Greenland named Greenland since the name would be more appropriate for a grassy land but is a frozen tundra with very little civilization... hmmm

Greenland was named based on what early settlers called it...

Quote:
The name Greenland comes from Scandinavian settlers. In the Icelandic sagas, it is said that Norwegian-born Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland for murder. He, along with his extended family and thralls, set out in ships to find the land that was rumoured to be to the northwest. After settling there, he named the land Grænland ("Greenland").[7] Greenland was also called Gruntland ("Ground-land") and Engronelant (or Engroneland) on early maps. Whether green is an erroneous transcription of grunt ("ground"), which refers to shallow bays, or vice versa, is not known. It should also be noted, however, that the southern portion of Greenland (not covered by glacier) is indeed very green in the summer and was likely to have been even greener in Erik's time because of the Medieval Warm Period.

Thanks for sharing that, funny I didn't know this considering for a while I had an obsession with polar regions. But it sure piqued my curiosity when I saw the title "Iceland" on this forum!

No, but I would love to visit Iceland, and I would consider moving there if my family did.

Why would it have to be Iceland anyway>

Yes! I'd love to. I'm tired of the heat, and Iceland sounds like an interesting experience.
