| My mom is half Norwegian extraction and calls herself Norwgian. My cousins claim to be Vikings. I remember eating something called 'groot' as a child and 'buttermilk pop' ? which I loved to eat. Does anyone know what these are and have dirctions to make? The pop was sour and had bread in it. Maybe like a pudding? sorry can't recall more about it, so long ago. |

I'm 1/8th Norwegian; the only Norwegian words that I know are basically lefse and kompe, which are both foods. There may be a couple more, but it's just enough to say that I don't speak Norwegian! lol Maybe I'll learn it one day. It'd be fun. _________________ I'm 24 years old and live in WA State. I'm familiar with some of the foods that they eat, and my grandma and I make futtimon every year, and it tastes awesome. My great-grandma also made koompa (I don't know if I spelled it right) and that tasted pretty good at times, except if someone ate it too much. But pretty much, I've grown up eating lots of fish (and I love pickled herring and pickles and stuff; or strong tasting stuff), and I know that my great-great-grandfather came from Norway, and he was a great carpenter; the houses that he built are still standing and being lived in. He lived in Port Townsend, Tacoma, Washington for awhile, and that's where he built the houses and had his children and such. |
Its called kompe. In Bergen its called raspeball. What is futtimon? Never heard about that. |

For Norwegian its easiest to READ Danish, but easier to LISTEN to Swedish. The Danish has a very weird pronunciation... |
