Hello,
I realise there are a few topics about this (but the search faciilities on this site aren't the best!!) , but are there many Gay asperger (i'm still unsure about the term aspie!) people on this site?
Do people think there is a link with Aspergers and homosexuality?
Maybe people find it easier to get closer to a person of the same sex?
Anyway, i'll leave it up to people if they wanna write back

While I am not aware of the statistics correlating Asperger's and homosexuality, I do know that there is a strong bi-directional relationship between Asperger's and transgender conditions - TGs are far more likely to have Asperger's than the population at large, and Aspies are disproportionately TG - especially natally female ones. As there is at least some suggestive evidence, albeit inconclusive, that in at least some cases TG conditions and homosexuality have overlapping causes, it is not unreasonable to hypothesise that Asperger's and homosexuality could also be correlated. Nothing scientific here, just a topic for a motivated researcher...
As for the term Aspie, I'll go out on a limb and attempt to speak for us at large - when used respectfully, it is inoffensive and appropriate. I assign the term an aspect of solidarity when used between Aspies and of understanding and acceptance when used by NT people. Of course, if someone means it as a pejorative, it is offensive, period. |

There are gay and bi Aspies here, but I don't see any link. Most of us are hetero, although we are often assumed to be gay by NT idiots just because a lot of us are single. |

Actually, most people wrongly assume that I'm straight because I'm honestly pretty manly. And quiet. _________________ "If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them." - Isaac Asimov |

| The only corellation I see, comes from the fact that Aspies don't develop the same social aversions that NTs do. What I mean is, since Aspies don't conform to, or are not aware of, social sexual stereotypes they are free to explore their sexuality as they see fit. |

So you mean Aspies aren't afraid if people call them "Flaming homo's" and spit on them? I do understand that but do understand this, the rate for heterosexual and homosexual humans is probably equal amongst Aspies and NT's alike, maybe Aspies are "less afraid" to express there interest in the same sex which might seriously screw up any type of study on this unless it was purely annoynomous with NT's and Aspies included, but I dont think one can go ahead and say that Aspies are more likely to be attracted to the same sex. |

Hello. I personally aren't homosexual. I'm a cross between Heterosexual, Androgyne and Genderqueer. I personally don't think that there is a connection between the two because my 3 Aspie friends from College are more on the straight heterosexual side. I think one of my friends is dating someone who is Bi but I'm not 100% sure and it isn't really my business. LOL
But seriously I don't think that it's any connection persay, but it's a very interesting Theory. |

I didn't mean to make a sweeping suggestion that all "aspies" were gay!
But you will have to explain what NT is!
So i think overall they are separate things, but there appears to be some kind of link to show that people who have AS may prefer to have romance with people, and look for love whoever it may be... more of a falling in love with a personality, but i think it depends on the severity of the different cases.
i personally have more of a mild form (well so i was told) though if i ever decide to tell people about it, i always say that if they read stuff on the net, then some things are more severe in me than other things related with AS...
For some reason i find it harder to tell people about AS than sexuality... but i guess thats another issue! |

BigFatPhony,
"NT" means neurotypical, or not on the autistic spectrum. You will see that expression regularly on WrongPlanet. |
