Greetings all.
I don't know what to say. I was diagnosed as AS/HFA about three years ago at age 24 after a history of sporadic therapy as a schizophrenic, ADD, and worse. The current diagnosis holds and has now been thrice verified.
I tend to be kind of an oddity. I have a public persona online and in print under both my real name and a psuedonym. I am a published and amazingly enough paid author of short stories and one novel, but I always get a bad case of the shakes and the "I'm going to puke"s whenever I try anything new.
In person, I am on disability and go out once or twice a week (to get reference material, go to sword practice, and go to guitar lessons or to go to therapy.). I am really lousy at the social stuff.
I have a long term boyfriend who thinks I am "very strange" and "in need of help" but we are engaged and buying a house. I own a siamese cat named Athena, and a Norvegian lab rat named Squeakish.
And I write. A lot. I am a member of twelve PHP writer's groups, but this is the first time I've every considered talking to other Aspies or seeking their help. I am so protective of my self image, I get in a lot of trouble and thus relate to very few people nonprofessionally - and only three professionally, my publisher, my editor, and my website designer.
So thats me, and hi, and man, am I scared. _________________ To the tale:not he who tells it |

| Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of people here and a lot of personalities, also you can find a lot of support. I was very pleased to discover this forum, as I know no aspies in real life, and here I've come to understand a lot of my behaviors and oddities because others share them. |

I get that too, the nausea when in a stressful situation. I don't expect it will ever go away, I just have to control it as best I can. Often not too well.
You deserve respect for being a published sci-fi writer. I am an as yet unpublished one and I know that this is not easy. I will regard it as great achievement if I do get anything so much as a story published. I find it easy to understand why you would want to use a pseudonym. |

As Stephen King notes - To the tale, not the person who tells it. All people brave enough to put their thoughts on paper are real writers, and any Aspie more so. So to all who have welcomed me thanks and to all the writers here, I freely offer my advice for what it's worth and will gladly read the thoughts of others who WANT me too, PLUS I consider plagerism a SIN and will never take advantage. BUT most important even if you decide I'm too be avoided like the plague KEEP WRITING. Thanks for making me feel so very welcome. _________________ To the tale:not he who tells it |

Welcome, cyberpunkwriter! Glad to have you here!
I like cyperpunk/steampunk and wish I could write it--congrats to you for being published.
I get nervous when I send stuff out, too. I just had an interview put up on the WP home page and I was sweating bullets 'cause I didn't know if it was any good.
My fiancee thinks I'm strange and need help, too. I agree with both, but disagree with most of her suggestions regarding the latter.
You're in the right place--keep coming back. |
