Do you have a weak sense of taste/smell?
I have a particularly weak sense of taste and smell. For taste, unless it's strong, it's all about the texture. For smell...well...my parents swear there's always a smell in my room, and that I smell because I don't use deodorant, but unless it's like...strong, I can't smell it... :/
well, that's good that you don't smoke. i know people that do smoke, tend to have a weak sense of taste and smells.
i have problems with smelling things, but my sense of taste is good. half the time i probably do smell bad myself lol, but i don't notice it

Wow. It would be abnormal to smell yourself or your own room.
It can be a symptom of AS to be able to smell yourself, you know. If something with your sense of smell is seriously dysfunctional.
The normal nose becomes used quickly to familiar smells. That's why when a normal person enters an unfamiliar room or a room that they've not been in for hours, they should smell something for a moment. And then slowly that ability to detect the smell will vanish. Your sense of smell has become used to the change. That's normal and has its use and reason.
It would cause an overload to the senses if permanent stimuli wouldn't be ignored by the brain.
So if you wonder about whether your sense of smell is, like, worse than that of others, don't try to identify how you smell. That's usually impossible, you see. Even if you'd reek or smell perfectly. It just won't work. It only works if you suddenly start to smell - like when you would do sports and sweat and use a deo. Then, for a moment, you'll be able to smell how you smell for others.
Rather try to smell the perfume of others rooms, apartments, other people, of deodorants, foods and such. Smells that are new. That would give you a far more accurate idea of the quality of your sense of smell.
As for taste - it can be that the intensity of texture overrides the taste for you. That's another possibility, but you'll have to figure it out yourself.

Uhm yes, sort of. I prefer really strongly flavored foods (eg I don't add water to my condensed soup) and I've always kind of felt that it was because my sense of smell/taste was weak. Can't really explain why I feel that way, I just feel that they are duller than they should be.
However, sometimes my dog gets angry at me and makes a puddle somewhere in the house on the carpet and I can smell that from like 10 feet away. I always know when he's done it an I walk around sniffing until I find the spot.
Abnormally strong: Smell, Vision, Hearing, Touch (certain textures), Electromagnetic fields
Abnormally Weak: Most types of pain, proprioception.
No idea regarding taste. I must admit that I hated spicey food until I started smoking, so I may have been hypersensitive at one time.
My smell and taste are skewed, like most of my senses are. some things I don't smell well, but others I smell better than others. BTW USE DEODERANT! I haven't known anyone 20+ to be able to avoid it without an effect.
I used to smoke a lot, three packs a day. Before I started smoking when I was around 13 I had an uncanny sense of smell. I actually don't mind that the smoking has dulled my sense of smell as I found much of the ordors of life to be offensive except for one that still manages to penetrated my almost totally destroyed olfactory nerves.

I am one of those people who your mother used to warn you about.
Nope, I'm sensitive to smell, except for my town's smell that I've had to get used to over the years of living here. Out of towners says it smells like vegemite. It's actually starch and a mixture of perfumes to not make the starch smell so toxic. When I leave town for a few days and come back I can smell it again.
I'm especialy sensitive to smells myself. I cannot stand most of the chemical air "fresheners" that are sold. My mom tried to put that Poporii pot stuff out a back when I was a teenager, and I was literally gagging it smelled so nasty! I was at a job site a short while back, and one of the girls across from the A-V closet I was working in had this little heated wax air freshener thing going. My sense of smell doesn't diminish after I initally smell something like most NT's do, and I was being bothered by that waxy odor all day long! I actually found it refreshing to go outside and hang out with the smokers on break!
Oddly enough, I find some smells rather pleasing that are supposed to be bothersome. For example, I like the smell of Winston cigarettes, because they remind me of my grandmother who used to smoke them. I also like the smell of fresh plastic, and freshly printed paper, espeially that glossy stuff like car advertisements are printed on. Another great smell I like is freshly cut wood and lumber, and lastly, I enjoy the smell of an old car...the scent of exhaust fumes, oil, gas, and years of previous owners all mixed together in the worn fabrics and vinyl.
I am hearing impaired and my sense of smell has been irreversibly damaged by either when I had my adenoids (what the hell are those anyways?) taken out or by the numerous sinus infections that I have had. Either way I get told by my dad that my room stinks so I have to air it out, spray air freshner etc.
As for taste, I can taste things pretty well, even though I am a smoker. I love sushi and the texture of the fish, but my mom can't stand the smell of the vinegar in the rice or the smell of the fish. Since I don't know what raw fish smells like I don't care. I don't wear deodrant and I rarely take baths, maybe once a week for me or I just do a water-wash up. I am trying to get a bit better with my hygiene though.
I am sensitive to very cold and hot tempratures, otherwise 50 degree weather doesn't bother me so much. Some pain bothers me, usually it's inner pain like with my fibromyalgia. Though I can usually brush off pain like bumping my knee or accidently pricking myself with a pin.
Despite my hearing loss, I am sensitive to certain sounds, especially loud and/or high pitched sounds. Like for example motorcycles, loud cars, sirens and metal pan scraping on the metal burners on the stove, as well as people scraping their forks on their plates.
Touch, I am very particular about touch and textures, with food, I hate sausages because of the fatty and rubbery feel not to mention getting one of those hard bones or gristle in it. I can't stand to do the dishes if they are in dishwater because of the particles of food floating around in something that I can't see.
I am sensitive to different forms of light yet at the same time can't stand to have very dim lights. I have to wear a blindfold in bed in order to sleep since light from the windows and my printer would bother me.
