Most of my obsessions (special projects) are life long if that is the proper phrase to be using since some of them weren't acquired until I was a teenager while others go back to my very early childhood. I also add new projects constantly. _________________ I am one of those people who your mother used to warn you about. |

| I've been obsessed with the blues since 2006, I think, and specifically Blind Willie McTell from mid-2008. The longest obsession I've had was about Lego and lasted from 1994-2002, and shows signs of a rebirth. |

I've got two right now, getting enough sleep, and a ridiculous story that I made up and keep going back to in my head, constantly adding details to... and it isn't even a good one.
While the former is of the utmost importance to correct, the latter does not benefit me in any way. I wish that I could just be rid of it.
Why can't I get obsessed with algorithms and computers like I used to be, and actually be able to get a job with it? It freaking lasted long enough for me to get a Master's degree.
Oh. Right. My brain doesn't work very well because of the low amounts of fragmented sleep. |

Well, I used to have an obsession with Legos at 6-12 years. Then I had an obsession with History until my obsession with Drawing. After that came writing which started three years ago and still counting. But the biggest obssesion I have now is anime, starting with Pokemon when I was 6. Along with writing, this is my biggest obsession.
Every now and then I get a minor obsession, like Lilith or Leviathan or Behemoth or Go, Risk, and chess. I'm still have an obession with Lilith and Leviathan as we speak, but I don't think about them as much as anime and writing. |

Haha! I'm wearing my Spongebob shirt right now!
I've been obsessed with cartoons, dolls, stuffed animals, and bright colors since before I can remember and Sanrio/Hello Kitty since I was 5, so for close to 18 years for Hello Kitty now. I've been obsessed with anime and Japan for nearly 10 years.
My more minor obsessions, such as things with any of the following printed on them: cupcakes, rabbits, fruit (specifically apples, strawberries, cherries, and peaches), stars, hearts, rainbows, pandas or owls tend to come and go. Right now, anything with owls attract my attention. These tend to fade within a year or so. |

| Years at a time but none of them have lasted forever thus far. I have an obsession with a girl now that I wish I didn't have. |

All of my interests are life-long. However, for the truly AS special interests, the ones I have the need to ramble about, the intense need to ramble lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 years. But my curent most-intense special interest has been in the rambling stage for 3 1/2 years and still going strong.

The need to know topic
To me this is what an obsession is all about. Knowing your subject inside and out. I have been obsessed with buttons and keys for 46 years. Other special interests come and go, but I have been studying genocides and related topics for 41 years, and philosophy for about 32 years. And believe it or not, there are connections between buttons, keys, and genocides.
Those of us with AS are a great wealth of info. If I need to know anything about the Simpsons or Sponge Bob I know where to turn. _________________ Radical Aspergian

| Some last a few weeks, some a few months, and I have one that is more lifetime. I can usually concentrate on one special interest at a time. If I happen to be in a sewing/quilting frenzy then I usually will not be posting on any of the internet forums I am a part of. |
