have you ever lost someone you love, including a pet? If so, how did you cope with your grief?

I had a budgie Dec-Jan this year, the heat killed him, I was very sad because he was good company.

It can be different sometimes, depending on what you are grieving for.

There does seem to be a grief process - anger and sadness, etc, there are many websites that describe it.

After loosing my special bird friend recently, my boyfriend got me a ten pound bag of bird seed and I carry a little sack of it in my pocket wherever I go so I can feed all the little sad pigeons.

After some of the fish in the tank died, I used denial as a coping method. I deluded myself into thinking that putting certain objects together revived those fish and they are just swimming around and hiding everytime I come near the squarium.

Now, I have desensitized myself to it. It just doesn't hurt to think about it anymore. Maybe sometimes, but it's a lot better than the first time.

I'm still figuring out how to cope with the grief of losing so much at once. I think the best way is to just let yourself feel what you're feeling and distract yourself as much as possible as well. Eventually it will stop hurting.

Yeh, I think that may be the best coping method. Some people find it hard to desensitize themselves, but eventually they will get desensitized as time passes. During that time though, they will be too distracted to live on it.
