Hello everyone! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Katie, a 17-year-old Aspie/NLDer who lives in the North Richland Hills area of Texas. I will give you more contact details if you are interested in the idea.
I have been trying to get support for this idea I have known as the AS Society. PM me if you wish to hear the gist of the idea, I won't force it down your throat here. I currently feel uncomfortable giving out my home address, but would be willing to exchange cell numbers via PM or e-mail. I am open to suggestions for meeting places, my only requirements are--
- air conditioning
- not loud
- FREE/money optional
The only thing I could think of was the NRH Library. It's brand new, well air conditioned, has lots of space, they have snacks for sale in the lobby if you decide to bring money, and if we avoid the childrens' books section we'll most likely have a quiet place to talk. Not too overwhelming or anything.
Also, be forewarned I have Tourette syndrome. Yes, I have the kind where I swear. I say the "F" word. I also "moo" and make other noises, as well as clap my hands and contort my body, among other motor tics.
Any takers? _________________ Auspecies--

Also, note that I would be willing to meet in other places than NRH. Name the area you had in mind, I'd be glad to evaluate if that would work for me. _________________ Auspecies--

There's already a group in Dallas. That's lousy for those of us who live on the opposite side of the Metroplex, but it's probably accessible via the Tre and DART.
Also, a couple of notes:
1. Northeast Texas does not include Dallas or Fort Worth. Though misleading due to the actual geography, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is in North Texas. This could confuse some people who are more familiar with the colloquial name.
2. Lewisville, Grapevine, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, or Arlington are more centrally located spots. DFW airport is also centrally located and probably has the best rail connections outside of downtown Fort Worth or Dallas. |

Okay, thanks for the correction. :]
I think this is the point where I should probably be going into more details about what I mean by "AS Society." Because for some reason it did not occur to me how that could lead to misconceptions... XD
The general idea of the AS Society I have in mind is not some meeting we go to once every so often, though meetings like that will play a part in it's creation. The AS Society (I've already made a site for it, linked in my sig), is eventually going to be a place or a series of places to live, possibly a small sovereign nation, that isn't anti-NT, but against a lot of societal norms and constraints placed by NTs. The main idea would be it would be a mixed population of Autistic, ASD, and (very supportive) NTs. The society will probably not be located in the U.S., but Texas is where I currently live, so I figured I'd start small. There have been topics on WP that discuss the idea of an AS Society, so you can try to find those if you want. The one I'm talking about, or the original, was started by AnAlias. Just so you know. :]
I'm off to bed for now. See you in the morning.

DANISH group you have to pay a fee. I love the office and go there for regular therapy. The problem is that it isn't that accessible from DART. There is only one bus that drops off near there and that late at night only comes by twice an hour max. (It's the one you take to get to UTD.) It's about a mile to walk to the Galatyn station, and two to get to Arapaho.
I have been curious if there are any other groups. The only other thing I can find is a once monthly support group with ASCC. Of course, my major problems with that are ASCCs parent discussions where it's quite clear many are biomedical and procure supporters. They also hold it at the exact same time that parents hold a support group. And Then the minor inconvenance of it only being once a month, so if you miss one month, it means waiting quite a while for a second.
I'd thought about trying up something like this myself. Hadn't actually gotten to thinking about the logistics since moving back to TX though. One of the biggest things is finding a place that will allow you to hold it. Things like liability have to be taken into account which is why it's recommended you do not hold a support group in someone's home (as well as privacy issues, of course). There was more that I was thinking about, but can't remember right now. But you get the basic idea. Also, would someone my age be welcome? I'll be 27 in a couple of weeks and have kids, but really REALLY have been looking for some kind of social outlet for just me. _________________ Parents with AS website: www.asparenting.com |

Well, you are absolutely more than welcome to come. I haven't given much thought to an age range or anything, though I was thinking anyone with an interest in the idea I have posted above would be more than welcome to come.

That would be a fun trip for me to take eventually. I am not sure I would be able to plan it right away, but perhaps we could exchange contact info. :] _________________ Auspecies--

That's alright. I know we can be pretty obnoxious, even Aspie teens. Thanks for your upright honesty about it. _________________ Auspecies--

Aspie teens ARE the coolest
don't think otherwise
NT teens =
Seriously, I am in my 40 something years
Age never made a difference till around 40 ish
I really don't understand how they put up with me
I certainly don't have the intestinal fortitude nor humility
So ya see, basically, My acquaintances have always been older
Until the last couple years, which is a simple matter of physics (rest their soul)
But I still do not believe that the terms Rap and music can be used in the same paragraph,
unless the distinct definition's of the two different entities are being discussed, with an open mind of course |
