Do you consider yourself to be an "aspie" in addition to having AS?

I am a person who is on the autistic spectrum...I sometimes might accidentally refer to myself as an aspie...I am more inclined to say "slightly autistic".

I don't really like the term "Aspie". I like AS better.

I love Daniel's straightforward one worded answer. I hate the term 'aspie'. I prefer saying autistic or Asperger's Syndrome to those that actually know what it is.

I have AS and 'Aspie' is an abbreviation of Asperger.

People might not LIKE the term 'Aspie' but that is what we are.

Of course, this might actually have been the intention of the question, in which case I have taken the question literally like a typical............Aspie

I got diagnosed more than a decade ago when the terms were different, and then they just said "PDD". Then it all became "Autistic Spectrum Disorder" and after that is when my mom told me about my diagnosis, so I just think of myself as autistic. (mildly.)

Anyway, like others said, I don't like the word "aspie". "Auti" sounds much cuter, lol. XD (And I'm a little different from the list of Asperger's qualification stuff, so I don't think I'd call myself that anyway.)

I couldn't agree more. I have seriously disliked the term Aspie since I first came across it.

Why? firstly it seemed far to cutesy for a syndrome that for so long had had such a negative effect upon my life, secondly I started to notice 'aspie' was commonly used on in opposition or to denote superiority to 'NT' and this use of aspie I REALLY dislike. So for me it is AS, ASD (or the full term) and Aspergers

@ blindspot I am a person who happens to be on the autism spectrum, I am not an Aspie. The same goes for someone who once tested turns out to have a typical neurology, this does not make them an NT

Interesting replies from others.

I do consider myself an Aspie. I find the other terms more clinical and medically descriptive. To me the word Aspie is more friendly. Amongst friends and family (or on WP) I use the word Aspie to describe myself or aspects of my behaviour. But if I'm speaking more formally or with strangers then I use the term Aspergers Syndrome.

With the wide variety of views expressed, does this mean that some Aspies may feel offended if other Aspies refer to them as such? :?

I like the word Aspie. The way I view it is: I am an Aspie, I have AS.

It annoys me when people say 'I have Aspie' though because I view it to be an incorrect use of the word Aspie.
