I think the first series of Stargate were great, but they didn't seem the same in the later seasons.
I've been having an argument about what they're enemy is supposed to be in this series.
SG1 it was the goul'd, Atlantis it was the wraith.. and SGU? Did they actually defeat the Ori?
I remember that they said the Ori came from the other side of the Universe, hense why the hyper-gate.. so is it possible that they're going to show up?
I'm uncertain about SGU. I feel that the stargate series seemed messed up when they kept talking about accession as to me it seems like a forced view about spiritual belief.
The series however doesn't completely bore me though like StarTrek: Next Generation (good actors in that, but I feel the plot is slow sometimes and there are things that bug me - namely the ships usually being on a 2d grid). |

| So far SG Universe feel very slow and very dull. It doesn't have any grit to it yet, and I don't know that it will ever. Its slower than a typical SG1 or Atlantis episode so far anyway. Next episode or two might pick it up a little. Maybe hour long episodes are to much for this series. Whoever is directed it must be new. |

My sentiments exactly. You hit the primary critique thus far, too: It's slow and very dull. The cast of directors and writers is virtually identical to SG1 and Stargate Atlantis, which makes it all the more confusing why they would take the series down this road.
The sad thing is, the series is so schizophrenic in its plot: How will the obvious comic-relief gamer nerd fit into the Battlestar Galactica drama that is forced on almost every single scene? It's just sad how they've body-slammed the franchise into the ground and are really just torturing it now as it writhes in agony. |

All the shows of a season are recorded as far as a year before they are put on TV, and if a person doesn't like it, they can make suggestions to the creators for the next season, or they can turn off the screen...

Not all shows, they are making SGU right now. which is sorta bad for the ratings.

My 2 cents on the gamer nerd....
A bone to attract viewers. Plausible, in its own way. Can't solve a top secret puzzle, put it into a game and see if someone solves it. If so, recruit that person, which they did.
Guy gets sucked into something and because of circumstances isn't just a civilian, but someone from everyday life being put into circumstances most everyone else was hand-picked for after years of training.
It'll be interesting to see how they handle character development. |

Good Lord, the crew are dumber than a box of hammers.
Ship's out of power. It has the sense to drop out of FTL on trajectory to areobrake around a gas giant (no small feat) and now it looks like it's on a collision course for the sun.
Next week....they are deciding who should get the working shuttle to evac as many people as possible before it goes into the sun.
Hello? A race built this ship that has kept running for longer than it could possibly have carried fuel for. Ever stop to think that it's capable of recharging once it gets close enough to a star?
And what's the deal with the communication stones? Hey, buddy, your body's on Earth. You have no business giving orders when you switch places with the guy who's on the ship when he switches places to report to the brass. IIRC, wasn't it this bozo whose order to try dialing Earth (when they knew there wasn't enough power) only accelerated the problem they now have to deal with? |

My guess is that since the ship has kept enough power to have gravity generators and shields working, that it has probably stored enough to phase jump through the star. Given that the ship has been plotting its own course, which I think includes the sling shot trajectory around the gas giant, the heading is probably intentional. When they phase jump through the star, it will probably recharge it or something like that which would happen only in science fiction. Also to be considered is that this ship is over a hundred thousand years old, so it has to have a way to recharge itself.

Loved SG-1, atlantis was meh to me. SGU however has brought me diving back into the series i used to love. As for all the early reviews of mediocrity so far, stop whining and sh**, i know the series is going to pick up soon (it is already starting to quicken a bit.) It is also IMO too early to f****** tell if the series is good or not, at least wait til the end of the damn season, give the series a chance blahblahblah.
As for the game that the nerd was playing that got him recruited, that is in fact the Alpha test of the stargate MMO (I know because im involved)
those saying the series is too battlestar galactica-ish, it doesnt really remind me of that as it more or less reminds me of LOST. Especially in how they are dealing with character development. Yeah the girl is a whiny b***h that does nothing, well maybe she eventually does something or gets killed off (both would probably satisfy some people, even though i do find her a bit attractive >_>.)
The point of this stargate series thus far seems the following.
1) previous stargate series' had characters who were TRAINED for the job. THis one its more of a RAGTAG group of people who must learn to work together and put up with thier differences in order to survive.
2) SG-1 and Atlantis were more about exploration/saving the universe/world/whatever, SGU however is more of a survival based show, though that most likely will as more of the plot is revealed (Im thinking the Destiny makes its last jump into a system for a while then the "bad-guys" appear)
3) It has already been confirmed that they are aiming for a more Alien feel for the Aliens, as in most wont be humanoid (gives me a thought that we may see the return of the replicators, just dont ask me why.)
Just give the series a chance and wait till the end of the first season before saying it totally sucks/fails. They are clearly trying to test a new concept for the series so give it a chance.
Also does anyone else tend to think Rush and Elijah (or whatever the name of the gamer MIT dropout is) tend to have some Aspie-ish qualities about them?

Nah, I gave up on it. All the characters are absolutely horrible, and it's crystal clear that this is the reason that their personal tragedies fill the majority of the approximately 40 minutes each episode lasts - This series just doesn't have much to offer. Battlestar Galactica was pretty interesting; It was sci-fi and it took a new direction. Battlegate Universica is trying to do an exact copy on an incompatible storyline. Copies turn out bad. You're just left thinking - Come on, an airlock! A plasma conduit! Alien attack, anything! Just shut her the hell up! Nah, I recently bought all the SG1 seasons, so they'll have to comfort me when I think about how shitty this new series turned out to be, but for the life of me I can't figure out how they managed to screw a reboot of the Stargate franchise up this hard.
I wanted this to be good; gave it a chance, and just got tired of the "look at me! Look at me - I'm Battlestar Galactica but I can't do it right! Look at this guy right here, he sees his father in the desert, and this chick right here, she cries constantly about a character that you don't care about, and hence you don't care about her." |

I think they have some Asperger's like qualities.
I think to think that Dr Rush is a lot like Dr William Weir though, and possibly that Col. Young is similar to Capt. Miller.
