I work as a special effects make-up artist, here in Hollywood. I sculpt prosthetics, make molds, cast latex and silicone, fabricate costumes, build models, take life-casts, paint, and apply make-up on set for commercials, music videos, TV and movies.
It's a great job for an aspie, because most of the people I work with aren't exactly neuro-typical. It seems like in this industry, the more eccentric and weird you are, the better you do.

i have had a few different job and im only 18!!
soon after i started secondary school i had a paper round, then ditched it and went for another a few months later, then ditched that one and went for yet another a few months later again.
i then ditched paper rounds altoghether, and had work experience in year 10. 1 week was for childcare, the other for catering.
i then finished school and started college, and did work experience 2 over 5 days a week, this was again childcare.
i then got kicked out of college in may last year, then got a job as a checkout operator in the local supermarket in october last year - present day. _________________ Diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome at 3 years old, just so you all know!

I work in Software Development. Presently, I'm a 'quality assurance specialist.' This made me really happy, because I like being a 'specialist,' as goofy as that may sound.
Previous gigs have included web-programming (my favorite, but involved living in Baltimore -- too big for me) and tech-support (my very least favorite -- surely, IMO, one of the lesser hells).
Right now, my job is roughly equivalent to taking things apart to see how they work and whether or not they could work better and more efficiently -- something I would do on my own time anyway, only now they pay me for it My department reviews other people's code and tests their software, web, and database stuff to make sure it works as it should. I work for a bank, so the vast majority of our end-product is in-house and highly specialized, but it's still pretty nifty.
However, it's not what I want to do 'when I grow up.' As much as I have all the usual communication difficulties (and a case of shyness that borders on social phobia), I think I want to teach either history, math, science, or some magical combination of all of them (fifth grade, maybe?) ... which strikes me as crazy, but that's what I keep wanting to do, no matter how much I try to talk myself out of it.
I also write comics, do some graphic design and web programming, and sometimes work with people's difficult horses, but outside of web programming, I don't know that I'd want to depend on any of those things for a living -- I think it might suck all the joy out of it. |

I'm in a huge rut.
I work as a hardware engineer for a hosting datacenter. It's boring and barely pays the bills. I'm not happy, but I don't know what else I can do. Aspergers' is really kicking my ass on this one. I don't know what I want to do. Absolutely nothing sounds appealing. I just graduated from ITT Tech last year with my Bachelor's Degree but now I don't want to do IT and I can't learn new things to advance. I still look in want ads for IT positions but don't feel I'm qualified for anything and I don't have the means to learn the stuff I would need. I don't want a job working with the public because having to wear a dress shirt/tie/etc is cringe inducing (thanks again Aspergers). I hate where I'm at now and where my life's at, but can't think of anything to do differently to improve it. Is there such thing as a well paying, non IT job where you don't have to wear a suit?
None of my intense "Asperger Interests" are applicable to a career. At least I haven't been able to come up with a way to make a living by watching Heroes, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, The Office, etc. Or by sports fishing or playing board games. |

For the past 6 years I've worked for a major weapons manufacturer where I've been in the handcuff department. Recently got a promotion to Team Leader where it is my job to set up machines (possibly doing minor repairs), assign people to there work, take care of rework, solve production flow problems, and pitch in where needed. Everything but the social stuff is easy but I'm working on that.
In the past I've gone from job to job which possitions including but not limited to (in no perticular order)
Dishwasher, Fastfood Cashier (ended up there reather then a cook although I hate dealing with people), Kitchenware Assembler (slow cookers), Retail Electronics Salesman, Pharmacy Tech, "Reader" (hard to explain), Worked in the Mail room for a newspaper briefly, Grosery Store Stocker/Clerk, And I've done some of that temp work thats been mentioned.
I pursued collage at one point looking into a Computer Science degree (with a smattering of pholosiphy classes for fun) but didn't finish, normally tell people because I ran out of money. But to be honest that isn't really true, more to the point I think It's was as much fear of success and/or rejection then anything else.
I have an interest in patterns, which leads to mathmatics which lead to the programing. There is another offshoot of that however. That would be Role Playing Games of the table top verity (like what Dungeons and Dragons is) Of and one for the last 10 years I've been working on a system of my own, always talked about self-publishing it but never done anything. I've recently made myself a promise that I would try it. Looking at 2 years to get playtesting, artwork and layout done. I've been told that it's good and have had people who would reather play it then comercial products. Worth a try anyhow... right?
Have typed in enough circles for now. |

| I supervise nurse's aides who work with mentally retarded adults in a state institution. I love my job. I like making a difference in the lives of people who don't have much. |

I have done so many jobs, started in the construction industry.
then I joined the Royal Air Force, but was medically discharged (Diabetes), I then turned my hobby (computers) into a career and this lead to me becoming a data analyst in the oil industry. after several years I developed an interest in the new advances in the digital age in photography, this then become my obsession and 2 years later I was working as a photographic editor and have been doing this job for 3 years. |

| I work as a copyeditor and proofreader, and I do some writing in connection with those jobs. I'm also a standardized patient at a medical school. In training classes and exams, I play the part of a patient. |
