I find that on my periods, I'm EXHAUSTED. I just can't get enough sleep. I can sleep all night, plus six hours a day on the weekend, and yet...still feel SO tired. Anyone else have this problem? It's quite difficult to get up not just in the mornings for work, but in the evenings for usual tv shows.

Absolutely. Some months are worse than others, but yes....very tired.

Make sure you are getting enough iron! You lose a lot during that time and it's easy to become anemic. Also, careful if you are taking PMS pills...they knock me out!

You may want to get your B12 checked. If you have low B12 that also can make you very tired and you may need shots.

Yep. But I also tend to stay awake at night a lot longer and then sleep a lot longer during the day. I (mostly) can afford to do this because I am not working. My kids sometimes have other plans though.

Eh, I have hyperthyroidism. I never get my period and I never get tired. It's actually quiet bad because it increases the risk of uterus cancer. What happened was my DHEA-s was high last year and DHEA-s is suspected to cause hypertyroidism. The DHEA-s was because I was super-stressed/anxiety which caused me to not menstruate for 8 months. the DHEA-s probably caused the hyperthyroidism which makes me mad that the doctors didn't think it was a big deal and I was just stressed. Ugh.

Anyway, I never got tired when I had my period regularly. Just crampy 30 minutes before my period came and then after that day the cramps end.

I honor my body by giving in and getting the extra rest when I feel like it. Also like pp said, plenty of absorbable iron, I use yellow dock root teas and tinctures as I don't absorb pills and otc stuff. Even with adequate iron and vitamins, I am still tired and need extra rest for the work my body is doing a few days. Also, I found what foods work with my body in this time and what makes it work harder. Even foods have hormonal properties and results in the body. Amazing to me. So yeah, yawn~ I get my pillows, my hot water bottle, my lavender sniffy sock for all my sensory goodies to nestle in and nurture myself through part of the beauty that is being a woman of reproductive age. I have come to enjoy knowing that unless the world is coming to an end, on my heaviest day, I am going to do very little and give in to the deep sleep that comes naturally when other times I am a light sleeper. I am going to give into watching bad tv and being "lazy" flipping through magazines or recipes I know I won't be cooking that day, lol. I don't think it is a signal anything is wrong if you have proper nutrition and iron... just part and parcel of the woman thing. .

Yeah I do. Just before I get it I feel really tired, which is a sign I'll be getting it soon.

Oh, I definitely do. Especially on the first day. I'm just exhausted and out of it that entire day. It gets better every day though. It's tiring to be so tired though.

I have that problem. I rely on a combination of reflexology, yoga, CoQ10, and caffeine to keep my energy up.

WARNING: Quite a few yoga poses cannot be done during your period because they will make you hemmorhage and be in pain for hours afterward! The only one I know which has the opposite effect and should definitely be done during periods is the one where you lie flat on your back with your heels against your rear end, and without moving your shoulders or feet roll your knees all the way to the floor on one side, then over to the other side. Miraculous for painful periods, girls.

I regard a period as Mother Nature's instruction to kick back for two days with extra sleep, a big steak, plenty of chocolate, and listening to / watching comedy. Some years back I decided to just take what it does and really roll with it.

I now get really cheerful when my period hits, even with the fatigue and aches -- I've trained in too many positive associations. :D

Mine is only painful and tiring on the first day...the rest are just steady and painless...and only inconvenient.Mine (the bleeding part) only lasts three days.

I also get really really tired. I try to get extra sleep but lately I've been thinking is is because it's causing anemia. I have heavy periods that last for a week or more. Also, when I was pregnant I got anemic and it's beginning to feel just like I felt then, when I was put on iron it was like the difference between night and day. A month or so ago I took some iron during my period and it made a big difference. But I read it is easy to overdose on iron so it is dangerous to take iron supplements without a doctor testing for anemia and determining how much you need. I think I really need to do this... but I don't have a primary doctor and so I haven't gotten to it...
