Monty Python is particularly appealing to Aspies.

If you agree/disagree/in-between with this statement, please answer the poll. I just want to see whether my statement is correct. As an Aspie, I think I myself like Monty Python even more than I would if I was NT (although some NTs like it more than I do).

I'm rambling now... JUST ANSWER THE POLL PLEASE AND PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY! Wink cheers

I love Python. But most people I know love Python as well to some degree. So I don't think that Python is "particularly appealing" to Aspies.

But it is particularly appealing to this Aspie!

Monty Python is an interesting one...

I can watch (or listen to their comedy albums) and just be slightly amused - then there will be some small little sketch that will make me laugh hysterically and almost pee my pants. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I have the same feelings about classic Saturday Night Live. Some of it is just okay - then they have that land shark sketch HAAHAAHAAHAA!!!

I also remember when I was in high school. I was kind of considered an odd girl. Anyway, the day before Spring Break, our teacher in one of the classes decided to treat us to a VHS movie. She put on "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." The class started watching it and they made all kinds of comments about it being "lame" "whatever" etc. In the meantime, I was laughing my head off. That Knight with his limbs cut off saying "I'll bite your knee caps off" HAAHAAHAAHAA.
I was oblivious to the disinterest of my classmates, who were making so many rude comments that the teacher just turned the movie off. I was disappointed. I approached the teacher at the end of class and asked for the name of the film (this was the first time I had heard of Monty Python and I somehow missed the title in the opening credits. My poor teacher thought I was being sarcastic. I pulled a face and told her I was quite enjoying the film and mentioned the scenes that I liked (and started giggling uncontrollably again). My teacher smiled and wrote down the title for me. She also thanked me for telling her that I appreciated her choice of film.

I rented the movie a couple of weeks later. I laughed my head off (HAAHAAHAAHAAHAA). My mum watched it too -but didn't quite get it.

I've been watching Monty Python since I was 5, and it still remains hilarious to this day.
I love the Brain Specialist sketch.

The question is far too open-ended to answer.

For what it's worth, I like them. My best friend, who definitely isn't AS, loves them. Another, who was bi-polar, had all of the routines memorized.

I really like Monty Python.
It's strange, because I first saw Life of Brian when I was about 18, then The Holy Grail when I was about 21, and they made no impression on me at all.
I'm still not sure why the dead parrot sketch is so famous though.

I've liked them since the 70s. They were as much about skewering then-contemporary British society (there was some sort of documentary on them recently on the Beeb).

I can quote a few of the movies, much to the displeasure of the missus...Wink

Ha ha, I love that film too. Very Happy "Look you stupid bastard you've got no arms left!" "Yes I have." "Look!" "'Tis a flesh wound." When I put up this poll I was originally thinking of the TV series, but yes, it is worth considering the appeal to Aspies from the films (which are just as good as the series if not better).

It's interesting to see the results that have come up, I didn't think so many people would agree with my statement... Ah well, good to see peoples' comments. Smile

Almost as old as pakled, and liked them as long. I don't think it's an Aspie thing. They're anti-authoritarian, and that resonates with a lot of people. They were the South Park of their day.

When they first came out? I think everyone enjoyed Monty Python. Nt or Aspie.

However, now that people are more interested in special effects, sex and gore it wouldn't appeal as much to some. I haven't met an NT who's under 25 years old who finds them more than mildly amusing and that's only on occasion.

So I would have to say "sort of...".

1969:

I remember finding Mel Brooks didn't seem as funny after Zucker and Abrahams brought out "Airplane!" in 1980 and ramped up the rate of comedy pacing to insane levels. As attention spans grew shorter, the slower bits just didn't have the punch. Yet I still found the Python bits great long afterward.
