Hi, as strange as this sounds, can you prove that you'r real? I thought for a while (as a "in head joke") what if only I am real, and everybody else is a product of my imagination and dosent think or actually have feelings, mind ect. One a day a friend said just that, and we both tried to prove we were real:) But lately, I have been thinking more and more, the entire planet could be just some computer simulation, and the year could be 2561 and I might be a daleks gold fish or something... as when I see people in the street they all look very similler, and do all the same things, and wear the same things. All the same-ness is divided in to a few groups, but everything is quite predictable, like in a computer game. Obiously a very complicated, often not much fun game, but the principles are the same... Has anyone else thought this? and... can you prove that you are real?

Occam's razor.
You're proposing that reality is similar to a concept contructed in reality by people. Unfalsifiable, but reality simply being just that seems more likely.

Yeah or this:

No. On the other hand, what would you do differently? There is a book called "Heaven" where the servomech caretakers of a planet get into a discussion with a visitor from another planet. Their position is that there is no difference between reality and the memplex. About that time the levithons break into the vaults and start eating the bodies ...

Question: Are you generally the smartest person in the room? Otherwise, it seems unlikely that your own mind would be able to simulate something greater.

Anyway, I'm real... Are you?

Most of the time I don't feel real so everyone else is moot.

I find that I'm very real.

Being as I am a Nobody and they say Nobodies don't exist...

I more often wonder if I exist/am real, rather than if other people exist/are real, although I find myself doing that from time to time too.
It's rather unnerving to have both happen at the same time.

But can I prove I am real? No, I think not.
No more than you can prove to me that you are real, at least.

You are real if you believe you are.

Yes, other people have thought of this before. One way philosophy has approached the problem is with the "brain in a vat" thought experiment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat

Descartes solved the problem of whether HE was real with the famous phrase "Cogito, ergo sum"--"I think, therefore I am."

It seems that the only way I can prove to you that I'm real is if I meet you face to face and then punch you.
If the punch hurts, I'm real.
If it doesn't, then I didn't punch you hard enough and I need to do it until it hurts.

(I hope nobody finds that offensive. I'm just messing around. I have an odd sense of humor.)

Many believe that if you can see it, it is real but what if we all are a dream of somebody else. To think this realm is very odd in the fact that many things that are in fact good for you are disliked by many like food for instance in regards to many theories of the scientific realm you would think that evolution would lead us to crave nourishment that is best for us.

Many people keep forgetting theory is only the first step of scientific method, I am speaking in regards to evolution and theory of mind.

I must say I feel like I don't exist
