I gave up trying to make friends. It seems every person I make friends with only cares about them self. I mean my birthday was yesterday, and none of my friends even wished me a happy birthday. Sometimes you think someone is your friend, but they hardly think of you ever.

I am in a similar situation as you.

I'm weird about birthdays. I'm better than I used to be, but I used to consider a good birthday is when I don't cry all day. But I did figure out one thing. If you don't want people to forget you must shamelessly promote.

I never understood why some people get overly excited that you wished them a happy birthday. I've always thought "whats so great about 'wishing' someone a happy birthday"? Do they have a fairy godparent or something?

I don't wish people a happy birthday, I rarely do.

My issues were entirely about the reminder of my existence. I have only not been chronically depressed for the last 10 years. I needed some validation of my worthiness and when I didn't get it-boohoo. Some people have unrealistic expectations of holidays, mine was birthdays. I'm pretty much over it now. I'm trying not to make my self esteem anybody else's problem but my own.

This may sound a stupid question, but you did tell them it was your birthday, right?

I have to remind my own mother when it's her birthday Razz

But seriously, you can't expect friends to automatically remember your birthday without some kind of reminder; facebook, hints, whatever... Unless you've known eachother for years or something.

I know its a little late, but Happy Birthday. Smile

I feel sad at times as well when noone thinks of me. Not even once during the year. Every birthday I have ever had has only contained family members. I have never had a close friend or anything ever want to be around me.
