You see, a Marxist distribution economy can work Wink

Canonical is losing money on Ubuntu. It's only still going because Shuttleworth is fueling it with his personal fortune.

I dont like how you phrased that. Shuttleworth funded a non profit venture with 10 million dollars. It never was supposed to be a profitable venture.

I am not a student but I am happy getting it for £45 from the special limited preorder offer that microsoft offered a few months back. I received the discs yesterday but not installing yet.. too much to sort out at the moment before removing my old vista and backing up what I want to keep. I will download a browser first too since I think the european windows dont have IE so i dont know if there is a method integrated to download a browser without using a browser.

Download a browser BEFORE reformatting Windows.
Or avoid the virus problems and boot a Live "Penguin" CD for the internet.

There is no way my current laptop could handle windows 7. I am trying to build a new desktop. Could I burn a copy and then install it on my new machine? I've never built a desktop.

I can get Windows 7 Home Premium for $29.99 USD just because I have a valid college/university e-mail address. I got Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate from the same website for $59.99 USD. (That's a 500 dollar license for 60 dollars)

But I won't tell... Very Happy

Nope. One copy per email account only.

So all he needs to do is to open a few hundred email accounts?

The uni I went to has two .ac.uk domains, one of which redirects to the other. Also the Computing Society has a subdomain on a server that they manage. That's got to be open for a bit of fiddling (not by me, since I graduated 3 years ago).
