I'm fairly quiet about my interests and really have only told some close friends. I have made passing references to some strangers (at the moment I'm fairly obsessed with Jethro Tull Razz ) but I don't make a big deal of them. I'm fairly quiet about myself usually.

I tend to keep my special interest to myself as nobody would have a clue about it although sometimes i tell my sister but thats about it.

Not really as it usually a conversation stopper, if I go off on one about music/books no one else cares about. Some obsessions are less socially acceptable as well. I'm never sure if my house mates ever have investigated my room trying to pin down the lingering smell of spray paint leaking into the hallway but if they did they'd encounter some interesting items.

My vote would have been much different when I was younger (up through late 20s) until I learned to restrain talking about and doing my interests publicly. After being told to shutup and keep it to myself I rarely allow anyone into my special interests.

How often do you talk about your special interests with others? I think everyone who's ever talked to me knows mine, heh. I know people with AS are often known to tell everyone everything about their special interests, and I'm wondering if that's actually true for most people.

I tend to keep mine to myself because they tend to go over people's heads and/or be a bit eccentric.

Pretty much everyone knows of my fascinations. I make no secret of them, nor do I intend to. I've found it can be useful from time to time. Mostly because whenever someone actually needs an answer about something they normally ask me. Which, being given an oppurtunity to talk about them always brings my mood up.

Besides, the reputation is nice, it keeps people from talking to me about things I don't want to talk about. Which is basically everything that's not my interests. So, it's a win-win for me. At least, most of my interests. Some of them... not so much. Those I try to reserve for my psychologist and a select few.

I share it with very few people, and most definitely NOT my family.

I could lie when people ask me what I did on the weekend, but that's too much like work. Yes, I went to a tournament with a group of medieval reenactors and I don't really care if anyone thinks that's weird.

My family knows about my interests, but that's about it.

All my life I have gone on and on about my special interests, politics and history, with my family. It's usually my little sister that has to suffer my long talks on some part of history or a political topic; I can't tell whether she's interested or is just humoring me. I spent last evening (Election night; mostly municipal elections but a couple of big ones) talking her ear off about random election results (the mayor's races in New York, Charlotte and local towns; the governor's races in New Jersey and Virginia, special elections for Congress, etc) giving updates; she mostly just ignored me.

Special interests, I think, should be spread all over the world unless we are intensely private... Good job here.

My best friend knows my special interests, even though most of the time he doesn't care. We're play MapleStory together so that's a common interest I guess.
