Jerusalem Post wrote:
Hundreds of tons of weaponry, ten times the size of the Karine A shipment of 2002, were seized in an overnight raid Tuesday by the Israeli navy, some 100 nautical miles west of Israel, officials said. The ship seized was sailing under an Antiguan flag.
A ship identified as Francop,...

The transfer of such large amounts of weapons, "is done in order to create a balance of terror with Israel," said Brigadier General Rani Ben-Yehuda, deputy commander of the Israeli navy, at a press conference.

Defense officials said the 140-meter long Francop,, captured near Cyprus, was carrying arms sent by Iran and destined for Syria and Hizbullah.

After several days of the Israeli military monitoring the ship, Navy Seals boarded it in the middle of the night. Suspicions were raised after the Seals uncovered certificates within containers that documented Iran as the point of origin for some containers, with Syria as the intended destination.

I guess those amputees in Syria aren't gonna be very happy about this! Laughing

Israel is always so anal about other countries in the mideast having weapons yet they are the only ones to have nukes. Go figure.

Imagine this headline:

"Russian navy boards US freighter in international waters and seizes hundreds of tons of armaments bound for Israel" (or Iraq, or South Korea or wherever)

Now I would have thought that boarding a ship in international waters is piracy if done by individuals and an act of war if done by a government.

But in our brave new world some pirates are more legal than others.

Israel can bomb and invade Lebanon or Syria and that is somehow ok.

America can bomb it's own ally Pakistan and that is somehow ok too.

But what if (say) Sweden decided to bomb (say) Poland?

That really would be a big deal.

Wombat, the U.N enacted a resolution - 1559, that calls for Hizballah being disarmed. But so far the they've been powerless to enact this. So if anything, there are two sides to this issue.

Israel isn't threatening to destroy other countries with their nukes.

You're not really making any concise point with these irrelevant ramblings. The weapons were for Hezbollah, a group which was created and is still dedicated to destroying Israel. Alone these weapons couldn't have done it but with these actions Hezbollah is seemingly looking to bring Lebanon into another conflict with Israel, and the government does nothing about it, even though UN resolution 1701 asked them to disarm all armed groups.

Yeah, the IDF should have let the ship dock, seen the arms be transported to Hezbollah, then another war could break out with hundreds/thousands of civilians dead on both sides, at least they could say that they didn't break any international piracy laws!

Arrggghh! Israeli pirates strike again! When will the seas be safe from this scourge? This is lawless behaviour and must be described as such. It's the pirates who are making these claims about the ship and its cargo. Then again, the pirate nation has convinced respectable people that self-defence against its crimes is the most evil activity known to humanity.
