well, i have 3 friends, lets just call them, boy 1, boy 2 and boy 3, so i have been hanging out with boy 1, 2 and 3 since the start of secondary school and were friends though we have a lot of arguments due to the fact that im socially awkward and can be apathetic when there upset, they would maybe be more understanding if they knew i had aspergers, boy 3 knows i have aspergers because his little brother has aspergers so i told him, but the other two don't know, in my mind its going to go either 3 of ways,
1. they are supportive and accept me for my differences and help me when i get angry or frustrated
2. they are supportive but look WAY too much into it and blame every little mistake i make on aspergers (happened in previous friendship, i say previous for a reason)
3. they SAY they are supportive, but they discuss it and decide that they don't want to be friends with me anymore, or we start hanging out less
due to these problems i only have a few choices.....
1. tell them and hope for the best.
2. don't tell them and just go on
3. forget all about them, and move to new secondary school (mum has offered to let me move to a closer secondary school because mines is far away from where i live)
can you give me some suggestions on what to do?? |

Ask yourself what your friendship with them is like at this point. How often do you guys argue? Are you glad they're your friends? Would telling the other two about your AS really improve the friendship a whole lot, even if they reacted positively?
If you decide to tell them and everything falls apart, you can always switch schools.
If you decide to tell them and they're nice about it, I envy you. I wish I had supportive friends.
If you were at the school I went to when I was 12, I would tell you to keep quiet. Kids that age can be really mean to people who are different. But I don't know your friends, maybe they're kinder than the kids I knew.
Good luck. |
