Individuals are allowed one account on WP; multiple accounts are not permitted. Without specific and extreme cause, once a member has become active with their username they are not permitted to change it. The internet is not a private place; information shared online remains there in many forms and many places - even if a post is redacted, Google's cache may retain a copy of the original content.

I suggest do what someone else suggested: Take out your location information. Don't post information that reveals your identity. It's not like your user name is your full name, or particularly rare.
By the way, in my experience, it's rare for a forum to have the capacity for one to change one's own user name. Of all the many boards I've been on on the net, only one had that. Otherwise, only moderators can change names on an account. And, of course, it's up to each board their policies on that. _________________ non-NT with AS traits |

sorry, if we got the PM we would have told you the same thing. Mods can always edit personal information out of posts (names, phone numbers, websites, etc.) if that is the issue, but we can't change user names, delete posts, etc.
If you use the "Contact Us" to contact the mods, it doesn't. That goes to Alex, the site owner. Posting a thread in this (WrongPlanet.net discussion) will bring it to a mods attention, or just PMing Maku (above) or DW_a_Mom, or Lau or me.

I don't know anything about your family's communication and internet habits, but a strong indicator that they might look for one is if they start asking you questions about autism. If they never ask you then they probably aren't curious enough to actually go looking for a forum. They may not even be curious enough to read articles about autism. It just seems likely to me that any family member curious enough to join a forum will also be curious enough to ask you questions, expecially since the whole point of joining a forum would be to understand you better and figure out how to communicate with you better. |
They are concerned about my autism much more than i ever am. They are overprotective, and they treat me like a little child. So why talk to little child about their condition? One has to study it oneself, as an adult. Of course, they have studied it since I was five all the way through my adolescence and adulthood, so they have no need to study it now, which might be why they won't look for a forum.
| Janissy wrote: | | After all, would anybody in your family go to the trouble of joining a forum just to talk about you but not go to the trouble of asking you some questions up front? |
Well, thats the problem with them they have their own opinions about me and they don't talk TO me to check if they are right of wrong. On many instances I have confronted them with being wrong but it is not effective, they will either deny they ever had wrong opinion on the first place or ignore what I have to say. |

Can it be considered an extreme cause that IF my family finds this forum and reads my posts then emotionally it would be the worst thing that happen to me within past few years. The only thing worse than that was when i was in danger of being expelled three years ago. Everything else fades in comparison. |

I have been a mod for at least a year and only knew one person that got their name changed and they had been a member for three days. Alex is pretty adamant about no name changes.
The internet is never private, nor is there any expectation that the information here is private. I appreciate your position, Roman, but we are all in the same position on WP. |

We are not all in the same position, since most people weren't stupid enough to use their real name on the first place. |
