OK simple question. In the next twenty years a group of Aspies come up with a series of "developments" which shift the NT - Aspie power balance in our favor. We effectively run the entire planet's economic and information systems, and they have become dependent on us.
Could we honestly trust ourselves to make a better world for all of us? You know, end , war , poverty and inequality , use resources for constructive purposes , create and humanely enforce a new set of priorities for the mutual benefit of all people?
Are we really that noble? I'm not sure I am , and I'm not sure how I would deal with that kind of power.
Are you? |

I'm not noble.
Sometimes I see myself as a monster. |

The biggest problem would seem to be able to emphasize with what the rest of humanity might want or need.
I think our decisions would be in the general best interest (at least in our own minds) but we may end up way off the mark in other's realities. |

It wouldn't be any better. No group is more ethical than all the others. Power and privilege always make those who have it unaware of it's effects on those without. _________________ "In my world it's a place of patterns and feel. Do you see all the Aspies here on WP agreeing on anything? We have certain things in common, but we certainly don't all think alike, or see eye-to-eye on everything. There's no group of human beings that will ever be able to wave that magic wand and make the world a Happily-Ever-After-Garden-Of-Eden.
Besides, not everybody wants the same things.
Personally, I'm not particularly concerned with the 'benefit of all people' - few of those 'people' have ever shown me any concern or compassion. Of those I've known, most have been at best indifferent and more often than not hostile, hypocritical and self-serving to the core.
Screw 'em.
So, to answer your question, no I couldn't, but I would make no pretense of trying. |

Willard- OK I do know what you mean- let's carry this thread on as it is, but I have another question.
In a post some way back someone asked me what is this "potential" we have? I answered I think it might be US.
I going to make another thread with another suggestion.
If I'm right - it starts here.
Let it begin.
This is a complex game with many moves. |

Though about this a lot -
The world and mankind are not designed to be a climax forest with every tree except the maples [in our area] squeezed out [the Rush song gets it backwasrds - intentionally?]. What WORKS is dynamic balance, no one type dominant, but cooperation and mutual respect.
This is just not compatible with megacities and McDonalds. |

We're human. We'd make mistakes just like they do. But I think that as time goes on, we are learning more and more about how to make the world a decent place to live; so whether it's run by one kind of neurology or the other, if we're lucky enough not to kill ourselves off we're probably going to keep making social progress. _________________ Engineering & Psychology student. I highly doubt it. If anything, our lack of empathy means we would do a worse job at accommodating NTs than they do at accommodating us.
As far as dealing with power, I personally am not interested in power. I am not well suited to leadership positions, and would prefer to leave those tasks to someone else. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

| Orwell...couldn't agree more, I worked in management for a number of years and it was by the worst position I ever had, so leadership/power thing just is not a comfortable fit. |

I agree with the majority here - we're no better than the NTs.
I suppose we often identify with other Aspies a lot better than we identify with NTs, which can lead to a subjective feeling that Aspies are superior in absolute terms. I certainly get that feeling a lot round here.
On the other hand, maybe the pathological honesty thing would make it harder to corrupt an Aspie government.......if current governments got so upset about lies and "nude emperor" situations as we so often do, perhaps they would win those hearts and minds that they crave so much? Or is it simply a case of corruption being a pre-requisite of power? |

It would be quite horrible.
Flexibility is in a position of power very important and people with autism are very inflexible.
Also, black-and-white thinking is not good.
Seeing things as lots of parts.
I like the precision, but some others I do not. |

I don't think any group of people can end wars, inequality, poverty, etc.
I personally would be much more preoccupied with making money than anything else, its at the top of everything for me. |

I don't want power. I don't want to dominate. I just want to be treated fairly and/or left alone. I'm with Willard on this one. Don't put me anywhere near power, I might use it. _________________ Darth Vader. Cool. |

Twenty years ago a group of aspies did, it was called Windows 3.0.
It has now produced the richest man on earth, and the one who gives the most through his charity foundation. A lot of money is flowing into education, dealing with AIDs and Malaria, in Africa and India, and keeping the focus on the things that drag the world down.
The view is global, and it is just starting. Due to our wonderful tax laws, giving works, and once given, the money grows tax free.
On the wealth management side investments in basics, small power companies, his buddy Buffet buying the railroads, energy and the paths across the country. He also was player in UUNet, the fiber optic net. A lot more was built than was needed, and now it is being gobbled by Google.
You can own 9.8% of everything without leaving a public record. Spread over private wealth, corporate, foundation, and friends, you can own 51% without public records.
Even while great wealth was being created, most of the economy has been in decline. Political power has weakened. Ownership and control is changing hands. It is best to just wait till the old powers fail.
Buffet is an aspie. The two richest men are. Old east Coast money has been cut up by trust babies who invested with Madoff and others. There are no more big pools of cash.
The game is in play. |
