I deactivated my Facebook account yesterday. It feels so liberating not having one. Facebook is great for spying on people, but otherwise it creates a false sense of social reality. Most of my "friends" on Facebook were not really my friends. Most were just acquaintances. A few were even enemies.

So are you hostile to Facebook? Social media in general?

Not really. It's my only communication with my long distance friends. And through FB applications my mother and I are much closer.

No. I have everything set to private so strangers aren't looking at my personal life. Only friends can see my profile. I used to be bothered by it was showing my real name. I never changed it to my new name so I kept my maiden name there.

I had a certain banned member who friended me on facebook, then posted stuff on me at another aspie forum, not the smartest thing to do since I only use my second life name on facebook, FB seems to only be good for attracting stalkers

mine was deactivated for a couple months, that is how I felt, too. I opened it back up but it's different now, it's more fun to me even though there are some changes I still can't figure out. I have to at least keep it open til I can beat my ex at lexulous. For whatever reason the artists seem to feel more comfortable with facebook than myspace which is cool even though it's not nearly as good a forum for promoting your music I don't think, it is like a more personal thing with the ones I have on there. I am glad I took a break because it really was almost addictive and now it feels alot more laid back to me.

I still have my Facebook account; everything is set to private though. The reason why is because I have some things on my Facebook page that I don't want anyone from my family to see.

I enjoy Facebok because it keeps me in touch with friends outside of school; I also like it because it has helped me get back into contact with some friends that I haven't seen since elementary school/Jr. High.

i like facebook. it's the only way that keeps me "in touch" (even virtually) with other people. I live on my own and hardly ever go out/meet up with friends. so facebook allows my friends to know that i am still breathing! i like playing pet society on there too. i also prefer mailing friends on there (as opposed to sending an email) as all copies are saved properly and i can always refer back to them easily.

Facebook helps me to find people's MSN without asking them in person Laughing

That's pretty much it for me, especially given that most of my friends/acquaintances (as distinct from colleagues) live on the other side of the country. I've considered leaving Facebook but it's a useful tool for keeping in touch.

I am not a fan of Face Book. In the hands of the wrong people it has the potential to do great personal damage to individuals (especially teenagers) and to groups of individuals. Also, it's a playground for the criminal mind. Recently, teens have been using FB and "tweets" to plan "Flash Mobs" and create havoc in shopping malls and on the streets of the city.

I have a Facebook account and it was handy in getting back in touch with people from my past that I really did want to get back in touch with. However, everything is locked down and private and I rarely update the thing. I mainly use it to play Bejewled. Love that game.

Twitter, on the other hand, is my lifeline. I do most of my socialising through Twitter. Twitter allows me to be social without the trauma of having to deal with people face to face. Love it.

I deactivated my facebook a long time ago and I'm a lot happier without it (and msn, I mostly quit using that too). I sometimes get obsessive about checking things so I was constantly checking to see what my friends were doing and I felt like a creepy stalker following their every move, especially since nobody ever replied back to my comments or initiated conversations with me. To me it's a pointless time-waster that I'm glad to have out of my life. I occasionally bring it back just to get some of my pictures and stuff I saved on there, and from the brief glimpses of my news feed I can see that it's still as boring as it used to be.

Twitter I use to get updates related to some special interests of mine. But I don't actually have an account, I just use the RSS links on people's pages.

Quite twitter, that was a total waste. I would deactivate FB but everytime I do my wife freaks as she fins it handy to leave me messages as our work email is monitored.

I personally have as much trouble getting the meaning of posts as I do meanings in conversations and get PO'd or upset when there was propably nothing meant by it.
