I was thinking of who was the deaf famous music composer was. It was Beethoven once I looked it up in one of my books. He was able to hear the music in his head. Don't you think that is really cool? I can hear the music in my head, but I can hear it better when I play it aloud. :?

I actually can hear music in my head as well. For instance, if I start thinking of a song that I've heard, i'll hear it playing in my head like my brain is catching radio stations. Its kind of wierd, but definitly cool when its one of my favorites. It really sucks when its one of those crap songs that get stuck. I think beethoven could have possibly been autistic. There's a lot of people who were influential believed to be autistic. Based on thier characteristics and life, its pressumed that people like einstein and newton had asperger's or HFA. I wouldnt doubt it. I mean, if you think about it, many NT's dont have the patience to stick with the things they were, to be persistent in the search for answers. They don't even have the patience to understand people like us!

He was able to do this because before he went deaf, he had time to learn (subconsciously, I mean) exactly how every note of every instrument sounded, and it helps that he had perfect pitch too.

I can hear music in my head when I know the pieces - I always have something playing in my head when I'm not actually listening to external music.

Oh, and also - the latest thing I read regarding the possible cause(s) of him going deaf said that it may well have been lead poisoning because his decline in health apparently tallies with Pb poisoning.

Beethoven was able to hear for apart of His life. Maybe that is why He was able hear the music in His head.

He knew exactly how each instrument sounded in their different registers - he knew what their tonal colours sounded like too. he didn't just hear the notes.

Not only could he hear the music in his head, but he could also feel the vibrations off the keys and distinguish tones, pretty neat huh?

May I interject? Most of the evidence seems to have pointed to Beethoven being deaf due to conductive deafness, ie the bones in his middle ear weren't working properly. So bone conduction would work, which is how feeling the vibrations of things could help him distinguish notes. Bone conduction works by making the bone around the cochlea vibrate and from then on the process of hearing is the same. Many deaf musicians who are conductively deaf make use of this principle. And this principle is also made use of by bone anchored hearing aids :)
