My favorite band, Katatonia, is playing in Louisville in October and I haven't been to a concert in......well, since the Pledge of Allegiance tour (Slipknot, System of a Down, Rammstein, Mudvayne). I'd LOVE to go see these guys play live in person but.....I don't know. The thought of being around people I don't know and driving to a place I've never been doesn't sit too well with me.
Anyone else feel the same? Or do you just jump in the pit and bash some skulls? _________________ "Some say his skin has the texture of a dolphin's, and that wherever you are in the world, if you tune your radio to 88.4, you can actually hear his thoughts... all we know is, he's called the Stig." |

I've gone to concerts, but I would have to have a reserved seat. |

i actually like going to concerts because it's rather thrilling. it's pretty draining and i do have to zone out somewhere after the concert. _________________ tinky is currently trying to overcome anatidaephobia. They're out there and they will find you...

I know how you feel. There have been a couple of times lately when I've actually had tickets in hand and didn't go. I REALLY enjoy live music and have been to hundreds of concerts, but the older I get, the less able I am to shut out the crowd. I've always liked just sitting in my seat, closing my eyes, and taking in the music. Crowd interaction not so much. I even avoid stores on sale days though. But, I've never regretted going after having forced myself. Have regretted not going, numerous times.
At least you have 6 months to find someone to go with you and get yourself psyched up for it. |

I have been to a couple concerts, I enjoy them for the most part. I am able to isolate myself pretty well in a crowd, it is only in my seat that I tend to get tense (people overflow out of their seats and end up touching me). The noise doesn't get to me, it is just as if I turned the radio all the way up in my car, which I do all the time. I am comfortable with driving and I use the gps on my blackberry to guide me to my destination. _________________ Those who cannot tell what they desire or expect, still sigh and struggle with indefinite thoughts and vast wishes. - Emerson

I don't mind going to concerts, I just can't afford it... Just take it as you being in an anonymous sea of people, that you don't really have to interact with... _________________ anahl nathrak, uth vas bethude, doth yel dyenvey... |

Not counting the small music venues at college and uni, I only went to one proper concert in 2003 - Massive Attack at the Point in Dublin, but I didn't go to listen to them. Goldfrapp were the supporting act and they were great.
Massive Attack played mostly new stuff from 100th Window, that no one cared for, everyone went away disappointed that they didn't pay their older better music. Goldfrapp are only getting better - 7th Tree is brilliant, but where is Massive Attack these days?
I would not have gone if there was no seating, I sat at the back. Also, it was not as loud at the back of the Point. _________________ "The true order is to advance from one to all fair forms, then to fair practices, fair thoughts, and lastly to the single thought of absolute beauty." - Plato (429–347 B.C.E.)

| I'm a bit like Randall in Clerks on that note. "I hate people, but I love gatherings". Well, not true that I hate people but I get the point. Small groups terrify me. But in my experience with concerts it always feels like I have some degree of anonymity even when I'm grinding shoulder to shoulder and front to back with these people. Somehow that doesn't bother me much at all and is actually almost sexual by the intimacy of it. The personal bubble most people covet disappears during these situations and the novelty of it is sensuous. And yet most people don't act like it's a big deal at all. That said, I just don't feel like there's a spotlight on me in such a situation. |

Concerts are great! And there are soooo many people! If sb is sociophobic, it doesn't matter, because nobody cares about you. You can blend with the crowd and enjoy great music (or silence, if you go to see DM ).
I don't understand people who don't go, because they don't have anyone to go with. I tell them that security doesn't throw away alone people and it's always better to see a band than not. I usually go alone, I don't mind and I'm still alive. _________________ Change Your Frequency, when you're talking to me!

Most people like to go to concerts with someone because it's always more fun. I feel the same way. I've never been to one on my own but only because I don't have a car. The last one I was somewhat on my own as my friend was in the moshpit the majority of the time (I'm bad with pain so I avoid those, although I do crave to be in one).
Loud music in concerts don't bother me. But kudos to the auntblabby who mentioned "unplugged" concerts; I'm a big fan of those and I love acoustic guitars in general (if there's anything good about MTV it's their Unplugged series live CDs ) _________________ www.Last.fm/user/BadMoonReaper

I've been to one concert almost 2 years ago, and loved it. It had all different bands/artists performing their best songs.
I really want to see scooter or prodigy live because of the laser shows and stuff. _________________ The butterfly, the tiger, just another shadow in the stone

my favorite concerts are the ones in a smaller setting. especially when you can talk to the band members a bit afterward.
i'm always up for jazz fest because your seat depends on how early you get there and how patient you are. _________________ tinky is currently trying to overcome anatidaephobia. They're out there and they will find you...
