Age: 23

Location: Northern VA / DC area.

Hobbies and Interests: Reading, Yoga, Psychology/Neurology/Autism, Cooking, wearing flippers, wandering around places among people who don't speak my language.

Why are you here? I have a 4 year old son who is high-functioning autistic, and I have recently discovered that I, myself, am more than likely an Aspie.

When were you diagnosed? Not yet professionally diagnosed.

Favorite subjects: Psychology/Biology/Healthcare & Behavioral Sciences/Neurology/Autism, Poetry, Eastern Religion, European History.

Favorite music: Eclectic. Some favorites include: Ali Farka Toure, Buddy Guy, Oi Va Voi, Tom Waits, Antony and the Johnsons, Sigur Ros, Morphine, Afghan Whigs, Can, Tomatito.

Movies: Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Sex and Lucia, What Dreams May Come, Frida.

Instrument: Backslidden violen and piano player. I doubt I could even remember how to hold a bow, although I can always muddle out the piano again, by sound.

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: I spent one young summer in tennis camp.

Family: A mother and father and a beautiful little son.

Clothing: Simple, and as comfortable as I can slide by with. I tend to stick to mostly grays, browns, whites and blacks, although I try to add a red item occasionally to keep people from commenting on my lack of color.

How did you find this website? Serendipity.

Job: I buy people. For a tech company. I also happen to hate it and am currently transitioning into the Real Estate field.

Plans for the future? Delicately laid out. I had plans, they included nursing followed by med school. At the moment, as I'm questioning everything, I would like to scrap all that and head to Spain. I'll get a little flat along the Costa Brava and spend my days diving and my nights reading. Yes. That will be the plan. Forget saving the world.

Any comments? I lied. I want to save the world, and then I want to hide in Spain.

Can can see ADD, and OCD as
a mix, but thrown in with CP & TS
I have no idea how that affects you
in behavior? I am curious because
of the mixture of disorders.

Sincerely,

The CP is not related to the other disorders. As for the rest, check out this link http://www.aspergerssyndrome.org/Big%20Picture.htm
and see figure 1. Everything applies to me except seizures and bipolar disorder.

Hi, Jay. I'm living in Chantilly right now, and about to move to Fairfax. (If I survive this Real Estate market bidding insanity.)

Generally, speech/language delays are connected more with Autism than Aspergers I believe. With my son, at around the age of 1-2 he began "losing" his language, the little that he had by then. He lost his ability to keep any sort of eye contact as well, became very withdrawn, had tantrums when any change was forced upon him and it was only ocassionally that I thought he even noticed that I, or anyone else was alive. He was in his own world. (This of course happened over a period of time, gradual enough for me to try to think it was something he would "grow out of" until it was bad enough that the fact that something was very wrong just could not be ignored.)

He is now almost 5 years old, and has a better grip on language, though echolalia is a big problem. He can make himself understood, though we have difficulty with things like "I" vs. "You," "She/He" vs. "It," and such complexities. He also interacts quite well with others and is a much happier little boy.

Very true. I quite recently sat down with my mother and we tried to think back to what I was like at a young age. I'd forgotten all I'd been through and felt, although looking at it now with the information I have, it is glaringly obvious what the problem was.

I'm even struggling with a bit of anger, because no one knew what was wrong at the time.

Cripes, you can afford a home in Fairfax at age 23? I'm jealous, heh. I'm not going to consider buying in this area until it becomes a reasonable deal relative to renting, personally. That should give me plenty of time to build up a down payment, at any rate.

I'm lucky, though perhaps not lucky enough.

The problem right now is that the inventory is extremely low. I found a two bedroom condo over the weekend that I really liked. It had been on the market for two days and already had 9 contracts on it. It's absolutely ridiculous. Even if you can afford to pay over the listed price, have cash ready, and are willing to wave an appraisal, you have to get in line.

Hopefully warm weather will get people moving a little bit.

First name: Matthew

Age: 21

Location: The Center of the Universe (Massachusetts to non-locals ^_~)

Hobbies and Interests: history, science, internet, reading, writing, river rafting

Why are you here? That's a question I leave to the philosophers.

On this website because it seems like a good idea at the time. Seriously though, I'm also curious. I know I'm wired differently than most people, and I know I fit much of the profile for Asperger's (though I despise how people label anyone different these days as having some kind of disease, hence why I just say I'm wired differently). So really, I just want to see if I can meet more people who are more like me in how they think.

First diagnosed: ADD at age 11.

Favorite subjects: History

Year/Grade: Almost finished with my Associates in History, then going back to college to go for the Bachelors some time next Winter.

Favorite music: the non-sucking kind of music. If it sounds good, I'll like it. It sounding good is entirely subjective to my own god-like (asnine) opinions.

Books: Neuromancer, The Screwtape Letters, Starship Troopers, Armor, The Forever War, Farenheit 451, just about anything by H.P. Lovecraft

TV shows/Movies: TV wise, not a big fan. I like the occassional anime, some of my favorites right now are Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Not too fond of American programming however.

Except for Invader Zim. ^_^

Movie wise... have a weird fondness for war/military movies. Glory, Das Boot, Band of Brothers, Hunt for Red October, etc.

Instrument: do the spoons count?

Sports: I'm about the antithesis of athletic. In the words of a friend of mine, "Your philosophy has always been no pain, no pain." Sports, on their own, kind of bore me.

Family: Parents (no kidding), couple of younger sisters. Parents are... quirky and kind of eccentric in a good harmless way. The siblings think the rest of us are insane.

Clothing: Yes, I wear clothing. Since, in the words of Mark Twain, "Naked people have little or no influence on society." They usually consist of jeans and a plain t-shirt (if Nike wants me to wear their logo on my chest they're going to have to pay me, damnit).

How did you find this website? Wikipedia had a link in the stuff under Asperger's.

Job: I work at a movie theatre. Strangely, I'm more sane than half the staff.

Plans for the future: Global conquest and rule under my iron fist. Mwahaha.

Really, though, I'm really not sure right now. That bothers me a lot. I like having a goal to strive for, a prize for which I'm bothering devoting my efforts towards in school. I'm dreading the possibility of ending up in a corporate or law office. Probably because I'd be good at it. I want to do something more creative, like game design or something.

Comments: More of a heads up, really. I have a strange sense of humor, as kind of seen here.
