I got my WP friend in New Zealand, Helixstein, interested. He's not on WP frequently, so he had yet to see this. So that's me, him, and you APX. Lets see who else is interested, and maybe a guild could be formed.

Yes, Invincible! It took me overnight to download and doesn't have a gazillion patches to update. So you can take a look for yourself pretty easily. IMO it is a solid game. I love it because it's D&D based (and therefore more complex than usual) character building; has different levels of difficulty for quests which can be solo'd, partied or zerged, depending on your skill and classes; is a world which reminds me of Oblivion in terms of danger and exploration, is better than Neverwinter Nights, and like an MMO of those two combined. There's no shortage of items and awesome rewards. Blah, blah, blah.. I like it.

Well, I'm on Thelanis, which has been ok so far. I don't really mind rerolling though.
Overall I thought Cannith sounded like a good one because of the lore involved. It's the name of a House in that world, known as the "makers", who are leaders in magical/steampunk style technology. A quick google showed me it's apparently newer as a realm, from sept 09. Perhaps more detailed evaluation of the realm is in order? I would normally check the realm forums and for trends in the kinds of guilds there... But I gotta go atm.

I tried DDO, twice. That is, I signed up for the free stuff and played once and didn't play again for ages. After a time, I wondered why and gave it another chance. After about 30 minutes I remembered as I went to lay down and wait for the nausea to subside.
I don't know what it is about DDO. I can play WoW for hours (not that I'm proud of doing it...) and City of Heroes. But DDO... no, motion sickness. And I don't usually have a problem with that.

I have noticed that I get heavy motion sickness, even to the point of wanting to hurl after playing FPS games.
My friend who experienced the same nausea suggested it was because of poor frame rates and that I upgrade my video card. It worked. |

Downloaded the installer, but it wants to allow a peer-to-peer connection that would share data both ways.
Not sure I want to allow that on the PC with broadband for downloading.
Don't know if you need broadband to play or just a phone line. |

FPS? Does DDO count as one of those? How does it differ from World of Warcraft, then? That's what puzzles me. Because as I said, WoW doesn't trouble me at all and I was curious about the distinction. Does DDO have worse frame rates, then?
But anyway, since my husband is the computer guy and I don't want to play DDO enough to ask him to upgrade, I'll stick with WoW.

FPS are first person shooter games like Doom, Medal of Honor, Battlefield, Halo, Crysis. They are quite taxing on the video card.
Not sure how graphic intensive DDO is since I have never played it.
If you got the money, WoW is the way to go. |

No offense, but WoW is becoming too bland and boring.
The combat will never change as the "I WIN!" button will be ever more prevalent in Cataclysm than ever.
In truth, when Cataclysm comes out, WoW will have finally completed the process of catering to the Lowest Common Denominator of player who never takes five minutes to read up on his or her toon despite having over ten million subs worldwide (which includes the gold sellers).
If you want to try an MMO, wait until DC Universe Online comes out on November 2nd. The combat will in fact be more realistic and more intense than WoW's combat will ever be because of the fact that you can actually dodge out the way of missile and energy type attacks for starters.

DDO isn't as graphic intense as you think it is.
If your frame rate looks a bit choppy in DDO, then lowering the graphic settings in the game should alleviate that issue.
If it's your video card, then you might have to get a new one.
In fact, WoW is more graphically intense than DDO could ever be due to the fact that if you had a powerful PC with an equally powerful video card, the graphics alone would intensify ten, maybe a hundred fold. |

I had figured WoW had more going on visually, and I think that's the trouble with DDO. I don't think it's my video card. The WoW graphics look great and I can intensify them without increasing lag. I look forward to Cataclysm because we have such nice graphics and because I want to see Auberdine reduced to rubble and the Barrens cracked down the middle!
So yeah, I think DDO is a tad too primitive for my inner ear. I hadn't noticed it looking choppy. I was playing along just fine and then I began to get hot and cold and queasy.
And I'm okay with easy combat. Honestly, I'm playing a game with my fingertips. I don't expect it to be too sophisticated. If I want realistic combat, I'll get kung fu or fencing lessons. I realized recently that it does get a bit silly after a while looking for realistic gaming experiences and never going out of doors to just have real experiences.
But obviously, I do like my games... as long as they don't make me chunk.
