I worry that I might have to pretend to be someone else in order to impress people, so they will like me. Nobody wants to see the real me.

I don't care. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that I'd be highly uncomfortable if I were 'popular,' because then I would be expected to know many people.

I do care about having a small, tight group of close friends. I would rather have no friends at all than have friends that I cannot fully trust.

I feel that fitting in and being popular is highly over-rated.

Even though I'm well past adolescence, I can still answer this question. I don't want to be poplular. Because being popular and fitting in would require me to step too far out of my comfort zone. I'm just not willing to do all the skinning, grinning, butt kissing, lying, coniving, back stabbing, and putting on a phony act in order to be popular.

I don't think popularity is a bad thing. I have no interest in it beyond finding great friends. However, I don't like it when somebody is popular for the wrong reasons though (has anybody seen Mean Girls?)

If the popularity you've gained isn't for the wrong reasons, and if you don't use it to take advantage of people, then I have no problem with it.

I worry that I annoy my friends.

Publicly, I am sorely afraid that I will be "found out" and exposed as a confused and anxious fraud at any time.

If you seriously think that popularity = asshole, youve watched to many high school movies. Everything isn't black and white. Im certain there is an equal asshole to niceguy ratio among the unpopular as the well as the popular. But if you automatically label an entire group as assholes based on some half-paranoid notion that everyone who doesn't like you or hang out with you are bad people Im not fucking surprised that you are so bitter.

And no, I am not, have never been, and have no desire to be "popular". But Im not so naive or delusional as to think that anyone who isn't my friend is automatically my worst enemy.

I care about being popular, but being popular is the *opposite* of fitting in.
I've observed popular people and I know from observation that to be popular you have to be kinda crazy.

You could care less? So that means you care quite a lot then, I would suppose?

I don't care about trying to fit in at all. As long as I fit in with myself.

I would never want to be popular. Like: I was having 4 'friends' a few weeks ago in university, but it was too much! Really! So now it comes to the point that I kind of abandonded them and, like, have no real friends at all(apart from the friends I know a long time).

I don't want to be popular - I don't like having attention focused on me at all most of the time. I'm more of the aloof loner type - a few friends are definitely a good thing but I don't want too much social interaction.
