Virtually all celebrities feel awkward when they make public appearances. It's quite overwhelming to have thousands of people waiting for your autograph.

I once saw Jonathan Woodgate (a famous footballer) in my local high street. He looked completely lost and kept staring into his mobile. When he saw me in my Tottenham shirt, he wanted to run a mile!

Maybe he's got anti-social personality disorder. That's completely different then anything on the autism spectrum and I doubt he's autistic in any way.

I'm sticking to my thesis: Marshall is a savant. He even dressed up like Rain Man in the "We Made You" video! Why should he be so fascinated with an autistic savant if he isn't something of a savant himself.
My psychologist once told me that I didn't need him, that I had the gift of seeing into my own psyche as well as into others. He said, while many things are blocked to me, I have the ability to see things that no one else can. I'm just going with my sixth sense on this one. Don't take this too seriously. I'm not an MD and this isn't a diagnosis, only an instinctive theory.

None more Negative

We have to ask ourselves: Is he really antisocial?

Quote:
Individuals with this Cluster B Personality Disorder in their actions regularly disregard and violate the rights of others. These behaviors may be aggressive or destructive and may involve breaking laws or rules, deceit or theft.

Diagnostic criteria for 301.7 Antisocial Personality Disorder
(cautionary statement)
A. There is a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15 years, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:

(1) failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
(2) deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
(3) impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
(4) irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
(5) reckless disregard for safety of self or others
(6) consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations
(7) lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another

B. The individual is at least age 18 years.

C. There is evidence of Conduct Disorder with onset before age 15 years.

D. The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia or a Manic Episode.

I never necessarily said AD. That's rather harsh. But for the sake of argument:

"(Making friends) was especially hard for me because I was so quiet. Shy. I was getting beaten up, and I would get nosebleeds and then sometimes my ear would bleed. That was Marshall Mathers. Never was social. Never had too many friends. Which goes against the image I put out there with my music, as an emcee who's in your face with all kinds of opinions and s*** to talk. That's Eminem. Truth is, I've never felt like I've belonged."
-pg. 143, _The Way I Am_, Mathers, Marshall. Autobiography, 2008.

1) Released song "We As Americans" on album Encore in 2004. Lyrics-"I don't rap for dead presidents/ I'd rather see the president dead" investigated by Federal Bureau of Investigation for assassination threats to the United States President. Lyrics censored to uphold law.
2) Extremely minor. Loves prank calling and putting on fake accents to people who do not know or recognize him (even today at age 36). Has three very distinguishable "aliases": Marshall Mathers, Eminem, and Slim Shady, each manifesting a different part of his persona.
3) Eminem, in his autobiography, laments many an incident in which he regrets his actions. For example, illegally purchasing a handgun without applying for a licence... or applying any reasonable logic, and using it in the assaults of others in-
4) 2000 and 2001 (as well as an assault in 1992 with a paintball gun), in a fit of rage. Not to mention the infamous, totally uncalled for "puppet attack" on Moby at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
5) See 4. If you've seen the movie 8 Mile, the scene where he and his crew burn the abandoned building down is something Em really did as a young adult (a series of arsons called "Devil's Night" in Michigan).
6) The only thing he cares about enough to never abandon or neglect is his daughter, Hailey Jade Mathers, and Alaina and Whitney ( both adopted daughters). He is very loyal to his friends and he obviously has no problems with money now. I'd say taking a 5 year hiatus from music (04-09) but that would be selfish of me as a fan (plus he's releasing 2 albums this year to make up for it). Emma's clean here.
7) "I take seven kids from Columbine/ stand em' all in a line/ had an AK 47, a revolver, a nine/ a mac 11 and that oughta solve this problem of mine/ that's a whole school of bullies/ shot em' up at one time"- I'm Back
"There's a four year old little boy (Kim Mathers' son (Marshall not the father))/ laying dead with a slit throat in your living roam"- Kim
"No apologies/ no suckers I'm not sorry/ you can all sue me/ y'all could be the cause of me"- No Apologies

"Rap forced me to deal with people socially"
-pg. 205, _The Way I Am_. Mathers, Marshall, Autobiography, 2008.

Had unsuccessful suicide attempt in 1996

I don't care if he's "afflicted" or not. I love him just the same.

I've generally interpreted most of the "socially inappropriate" type of stuff he does to be very engineered.. the more of a stir he causes, the more attention he gets, and the more albums he sells. Most rappers don't even bother to call themselves musicians, but entertainers. I thought most of the stuff he did was for show... in which case he exhibits a great deal of ToM...

This sounds like it could come from someone with AS. When people start saying stuff like this I wonder if maybe they are on the spectrum, and they are experiencing a sense of not fitting in or belonging because of their traits.

Theory of Mind?
Little know fact: Em is genuinely fascinated with serial killers, to the point of obsession (wink wink).
"How many people you know can name every serial killer who ever existed in a row/ Put 'em in chronological order beginning with Jack the Ripper/ Name the time and place from the body the bag the zipper/ Location of the woods where the body was dragged and then dumped/ The trunk that they were stuffed in, the model the make the plate/ And which model which lake they found her in/ And how they attacked the victim/ Say which murder weapon was used to do what in which one/ Which knife and which gun, what kid what wife and which nun/ Don't stop I like this it's fun, the f***in' night's just begun/"
-Must be the Ganja, 2009
No media image. Em is as real as they come.

What's really interesting about EminEm is his Rain Man song and him refering to his obsession with rap music as "autistic". Sounds like he either knows he's on the spectrum or someone has suggested it to him. It's like he is saying he is without actually coming out and saying it.

I don't know if i would want him to have AS to be honest. He gives me the creeps.

I think, he's ... somewhat creative.. creepy. Not AS though, I think the fact that his childhood was rather suckish from what I have heard made him .. the person he is today. I would say more of the whole PTSD kind of thing. Not AS though..

He's way more into causing harm to others, which I also consider a trait of someone who is a sociopath. That's what I have understood from a lot of his songs. He seems more PTSD/Sociopathic to me. Not AS.

That's like saying Kanye West has AS when really he just has a drinking problem. . and he's just an ass.

Ok I know its been over a year on this post but I only just recently have been doing everything I can to try and figure out what the f**k is going to happen to me.
Anyway I first listened to Eminem's *Not Afraid* and after that I pretty much had to get every single album from him. In so many songs I can hear relations to MY autistic behavior (that is the things I notice that separate me from NT's and that can fall under the category of asperger's/autism). I will not go into many details hear as I am sure they have been repeated but even if he does not have some form of ASD he still has been surprisingly influential and a good source of motivation for me. His music makes me see hope at times when usually all I would see is pain. I also have found that listening to his music full blast is the one thing that I have found that works that calms me down after a bad time.

He may have a mental disorder, judging from his often erratic & violent behavior, but he certainly doesn't seem to have a social disorder. Certainly nothing at all like an ASD.

It would not surprize me. I've never been able to relate to the music of most artists but he was the first I was able to.

I have to agree with the original post.

I'm noticing a trend here.. people saying "Yeah, no way could he possibly have AS" are not fans, and not familiar with his lyrics, history, interview style, etc. They just know a few bits and pieces of news reports.

To anyone who is a fan and has a great deal of knowledge on Eminem, yes, you could say it's likely that he has AS.
