Am I dumb for being in a lower class?
I am male and 17 with ASD/AS and I would like to know am I stupid for being in lower classes? I am wondering what can I do to get into a regular class because I was in a bunch of modified classes through high school and still am but I am also seem to think that I am dumb to be put in them. I also thought that people with aspurgers or autism would be to smart to be placed in lower classes and I thought that was true but I don't know. I will continue more of my posting later on after a few responces.

No. You can thank Obama and Barney Frank for making it so that being poor and unemployed has almost completely lost it's stigma.

Not sure what that first commenter was on about. Maybe he replied to the wrong post.
Are you in actual remedial classes? Sometimes when a child has an IEP (Individual Education Plan), they can be placed into classes that are slower than the standard curriculum to accommodate any time or focus issues that the child faces. I've got a concern for my son on this topic because he's an A/B student who tests very well on the statewide standardized testing, so I don't want him placed into a remedial class when I know he can perform just fine in a regular class if slight accommodations are made. However, you haven't said yet whether you were placed in these classes because of an IEP or because your grades warranted your placement there. I think that makes a difference. Either way, I can tell you right now that you're not stupid.
If it's possible, try to get some outside tutoring. Really make sure you're not missing out on a good education and start speaking with your guidance counselor about switching your classes to the standard ones. Attending remedial classes could affect you in college, both in which colleges accept you and your ability to learn the information as presented in that venue. Mind you, AS/ASD patients do tend to perform better in college than they do in high school. So you've got that good thing ahead of you. I just don't want you to be missing things you could very well learn right now. A tutor might help bridge that gap.
What more information is there for you to share about this situation you're in?

i also was in special ed through much of my school years, and eventually mainstreamed into regular classes with the expectation that i was slow. if i had kept my original expectation that i could be seen by the other normal school students as one of them [i.e., their normal peer], i would have been in a world of hurt, but as soon as i got rid of that expectation, i became thankful that i was being cut some slack. as hurtful as it can be to an adolescent ego, a man's gotta learn [and know] his limitations. folks on the spectrum are quite varied in native abilities, IOW we all can't be as smart as bill gates. but it would be a boring world if we all were the same.

It's not that easy being green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that
It's not easy being green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky
But green's the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
Like a mountain, or tall like a tree
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why wonder,
I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful
And I think it's what I want to be

you have no idea how sickening it is, to keep hearing clueless right-wing bullies tell people like myself, "oh, you're just not trying hard enough." usually the phrase "you're just a GD slacker!" follows, just as surely as night follows day. judas h. priest already.
