Hi guys,

I'd love to get a tattoo to 'celebrate' having Aspergers. My kids both have Aspergers as well.

Do you have a tattoo in honour of ASDs? What are they?

Also, what's your opinion on the 'puzzle pieces' often used to represent ASDs?

Thanks for your input! :D

Hey Ausmama
I have one tattoo on my wrist that is a charm bracelet with purple ribbon and five charms on it, one for the organization I worked for, a magic foundation star, a spoon (www.spoontheory.com), a celtic cross, and the 3Elove.com wheelchair heart logo.

I want to get the word Rogue on my right foot in cursive with the e turning into a ribbon with the traditional puzzle piece symbol for autism.

I think the puzzle piece fits in a way because we are all different like the different shapes of a puzzle and we are also highly unique in how our autism helps and hinders us.

I hope you'll put a pic up of your tat when you get it! :)

The only thing I don't about using the puzzle piece as an "official" symbol is that it has it's roots in the Autism Speaks/curebie groups. However, since it kind of became universal and it's easily recognized, I guess I can accept it as the default... Although if I got a tattoo, I think it would just be something like "autistic person" or "Aspergian" in script... Kind of simple and says it all.

I'd get the logo of my favourite rock band which has also been a special interest for life, so far.

Welkome to WrongPlanet. :)

Hi guys,

Sorry about the delay in replying. I'm a newbie to this forum and didn't have the "e-mail me any replies" option checked. Didn't know anyone had replied!

Anyway, thanks for writing your opinions on here. I haven't got my tatt yet. My best friend (also an Aspergirl) mentioned that the puzzle pieces are often associated with Autism Speaks, and that one of their aims is to 'find a cure for autism'. I don't want anyone thinking that I support the idea of finding a cure, because I don't. Without ASD people, the world would be a very different, less-advanced place.

Instead, I decided I'd like to get a tattoo of a heart with a woven pattern on it, basically to symbolise that every part of my left has threads of Aspergers running through it, i.e. that Aspergers is part of my fabric of life.

What do you think?

the heart idea sounds really neat and personally symbolic as well as creative
the puzzle piece seems a little generic plus the whole autism speaks thing,

i actually want to get a tattoo of a barcode that looks busted as if it were made of glass and dropped, to symbolism the pride of nonconformity!! !

Isn't that the truth :P
