michael kirby- an ex justice of the australian high court, gay, still alive, works for justice for people from all walks of life including the community(queer and hiv/aids). remains a nice guy even though he has been attacked personally because of his sexuality.
oscar wilde- for being witty, gay (arguably bisexual) at a time when it was illegal and not accepted by society and for speaking out against prison conditions and other stuff.
harvey milk- gay, dead, the only person in politics i respect, working to better the position of the queer community and non queer community, being a loveable larakin who didn't act up himself and being out when it was not acceptable to be so.
all my heroes except one are queer and male.

Otep Shamaya. Arguably one of the most creative, articulate, insightful and emotionally resilient, openly-lesbian singer-songwriters out there (and possibly one of the only- openly, I mean). In case the name didn't give it away, she writes the lyrics for, and fronts, the nu-mental band Otep. _________________ It takes a village to raise an idiot, but it only takes one idiot to raze a village.

Meiko Xavier. I stumbled across his channel on youtube a while ago and found his attitude toward transition and just the way he approaches things in a gentle way very ... disarming.
The character Andrew from Desperate Housewives. Sure he's a bit of a sociopath and an as*hole to his mother, but I admire him for being so completely honest about his sexuality at an early age even when he had a conservative mother who was strongly against it at first. Also he kind of breaks the gay male stereotype in the media, he's not one of those "fabulous" gay characters who's obsessed with fashion and beauty, he's just himself and doesn't care what others think of him. Also he's potrayed as a strong-willled person, where most gay men in the American media are potrayed as either wimpy or so macho they can't be real.
