I used to enjoy coming to the wp chat, but the past few weeks there have been more and more trolls entering it. Should you respond to these trolls in your own defence, you will be "reminded" that you are a troll and are more than often silenced. I have been no angel on the chat, and i apologise, but there are far worse individuals on their than me. Ops choose to ignore them in favour of picking up on the slightest thing me and others say in our defence. I have been called a vulgar cow in there and i have seen others being called simlar things and no action has been taken untill they themselves have responded, and been muted or kicked, whilst the troll has comtinued to insult and partake in general disruption for quite some time.

Sadly, when a message board and chatroom becomes more known such as Wrong Planet, there will be a problem with trolls that tend to gravitate there. I know I'm going to tick off Alex but I have noticed that not any of the moderators seem to want to police the board and I could guess the chatroom is the same way. One knucklehead managed to start a thread calling the military men in Iraq cowards and that thread went into a flamewar (which I don't blame the other posters for telling him off) and yet that thread is still there.
I'm sorry if I'm being a arse but it is getting to a point to where I hardly come on here anymore. |

| I used to like it here too, and the chat became a kind of lifeline for me, but the minority have ruined it and ops fail to take action. |

According to the operators, you've been banned from the chatroom for agressive behavior against other members. I wasn't there to see what happened but this thread violates item 4 of Wrong Planet's Forum rules so you're not making a very good case for yourself.

it is not so much that said troll, and I know who you speak of, is being ignored, he has infact been reprimanded for his behaviour. the problem is, that you yourself failed to let the issue with him drop, if you could learn to ignore, it would all be sweet, but you kept it up, and yes, alex is correct, your behaviour was somewhat agressive, and borderline trollish, and therefore you have been temporarily removed from chat.

I did not spam or promote an other website, group or product, nor did I discuss or name any banned members in this post. I certainly never intended to cause any conflict with any wp staff eather. I wanted to bring the matter to the attention of wp staff, what they do with the info then has nothing whatsoever to do with me. Whilst we are on the subject of rule violation, may I ask if it is ok for one chatter to say to another chatter during the wp chat that he and his country should be nuked? or call some one a bipolar b***h?.

I really think that wrongplanet is getting worser, people in chat are getting banned even when they are following the rules. That is all i am going to say right now.

You know i am usually the type of person who does not complain one bit. Some of the new ops are going on a banning spree, and the +votsriRfA is really in the hands of the wrong ops. I would like someone to really talk to Gerrit about this matter, it is really important to get the situation solved in my opinion. Ops banning people for no reason, and the people that did not break the rules , it is getting really bad. I think that Wrongplanet has not gotten better, but it has been getting worse. I really think there is a need for a meeting in my opinion if Alex would do so, it can be a big help here.

KateSmith: There is little Gerrit can do about it. Not only is he away at the moment (I think), but he also doesn't have enough power to be able to rectify anything. Only Alex, TOGGI3, and WardenWolf have the ability to moderate what the ops do, and as far as I can see, they're the root of the problem at the moment. A meeting between sensible people is definitely a must, because as things are, people are getting banned for some stupid reasons.

I have to say that the channel was way better years ago than now. At least the ops cared about the place. They left aside any personal issues with users and did their jobs. Alex, I have to say I'm highly disappointed after I came to you many times after expressing valid concerns and such and then you turn around and give ops to a few that can't even do their job without letting personal issues get in the way. You said you didn't know who to trust and who not to. I have to say if you stayed around the channel and got to know people better, then you'd see a whole different side to those ops you trust right now in that channel of yours. I gave you some good suggestions of individuals that would be good as ops and trustworthy ones too and that was because you asked me for that.
It is a room I have been a member of for many years now, it has been a place of support for me and others, it has sentimental value to me because of the few people that I have made friendships with and have given support to and some people in there because they disagree with me being blunt and straight-forward with my opinions, or other issues won't let them go, because of this I was banned from the chat. I have not been the only one that this has happened to by one of your ops, I think it's time to put aside the past and move forward. I have been trying to do that and many others know that. I and another have also noticed a recent lack of female ops in the channel and honestly, that is not something that is right either. |

I have to say that, while I've never been on the WP irc channel, it's been my experience that IRC in general is *extremely* driven by people's personal issues, personality conflicts, and what people had for lunch that day. Much of that has to do with the fact that, unlike a forum, chat is both real-time and temporary (more or less).
If people don't like what you have to say in a chat room - there's really not much value in saying it in the first place, because there's really no lasting impact on your words (whoever is in the chatroom at that time reads it and can respond, but aside from logs that's that). Probably better to make a room where people do see value in your words, and can contribute to a meaningful conversation.
Just my opinion, made without knowing any of the specific details of anything. |

It seems to me the issue here is that the trolls themselves are no longer being shown favoritism and are now complaining that the opping staff has said enough is enough and banned them.

I just want to kind of make a point there. There have been lots of good ops that are now quitting like Caramel, Baxtir, allie, sive. All the really good ops have been quitting. If you did not notice arjanb does not show up to wrongplanet no more, it seemed like he also gave up wrongplanet. P_B is hanging out in another channel now. What I have noticed and I do agree with P_B you are not supposed to just ban people because you dont like them. Gerrit and Silph lost the +votsriRfAF flag, and it is very wrong. Some of the ops have been demoted. That is all i am going to say for now, because something is not right, it is very wrong.

It's easy to create a new channel on IRC. So if the old one is not working any more, then give it a try and create a new one. Having said that, I must confess, that I have not visited that particular channel, since I mostly IRC on the IRCnet.

Certain ops have, in the past, stated that Alex's opinions do not matter and have stood in opposition to him. They have attempted to become a law unto themselves and, by de facto, wrest control of the channel away from its owner. Because of this, over the last year, there have been changes to the opping staff. Many are not happy with those changes, and many are having a hard time adjusting to them. The goal here is to bring the channel back to Alex's vision and mission, and this unfortunately has required some unpopular changes in order to deal with negative elements which were previously allowed to foster. It should have never gotten to this point. I would like to thank, though, the efforts of Corin, Gerrit, JoeLlama, and various other ops who have done excellent work up until this point. Even though many have recently retired or left due to disagreements, they put in a great effort into making the channel a welcoming place and maintaining order. And I do genuinely regret not being able to work with them further.
