Guys, last year I really had poor social skills. This year I had a dastric change not to have poor skills, but not at age level. I am a mild aspie, with NT parents who researched and kno more about asperger than me.. and all I need is to lern the non verbel messages and ill be better, and facial expressions. Every NT has their own type of social issues, but us aspies need more preactice. I am 13 and this forum just has depressed aspies which I don't need, I know I will be way better.

Bai!!!!

I'm not a depressed Aspie and I don't think most of the people here are depressed. A lot of the members here are successful and are leading fulfilling lives.

I'm not a depressed aspie either and I don't believe in stereotypes.

I'm not depressed but I'm not successful, fulfilled or satisfied. Confused This site has made me feel even more different and an outcast, but oh well.

Please do not be quick to judge the wrong planet as a bunch of depressed aspies, I can not pretend that I am always full of joy but I do not think I am depressed. A person who is only ever happy is a person who has the happyness patrol breathing down their neck (see 1980s Dr Who for this reference)

The wrong planet is an important resource for the world wide aspie community, I am glad that Alex has created this site where you can sometimes find people delighting in aspie culture.

I have news for ya kid. You're dead wrong if you think people won't notice. I'm pretty sure many aspies have gone through the "If I just learn to act like them, I'll be totally seen as normal!" phase and have realized that there's an awful lot more to it than that.

But good luck with life anyway. You seem to think you have it all figured out. At thirteen. I'll try not to burst the bubble of your delusion.

I'm a depressed aspie, and I would rather spend my energy on things I enjoy or that might be useful then trying to perfectly mimic NT social interaction complete with non verbal messeges and facial expressions. I mean what is being able to act perfectly normal going to do for me?

Also, you just seem quite judgemental, I hope you don't say things like this to people in real life....trust me the last thing a truly depressed person needs is some kid trying to act superior. Though I imagine most adults are not going to get too up set over that someone in your age group easily could.

While I disagree that you can't learn social skills, it is a lot more than nonverbal skills and facial expressions. Many things can be overcome, but there will always be a distinction. After all, it just takes a sign language class to help with the facial expressions. And the body language can be read up and practiced. But, after all that, there will be a difference. It is the choice of every aspie if they want to be awkward and try to learn to be like an NT, and just try to hide the aspie thing (and hope your friends think it is just "quirks" or to be totally different.

I wish you luck too, I doubt that you have learned everything, there will always be more information, more research, more articles, and more to learn...however, if you want to put the effort into changing the life that you lead...you can. Just know that expectations are not lways met and sometimes you will fall short, and you will always have asp origins.

MOST ASPIES DON'T GIVE UP......they have ups and downs. But if they gave up, they'd be dead. This place is a last refuge for some, and that is not giving up, that is seeking help.

I don't see most Aspies here giving up. But, if you've got more figured out at 13 than I do in my 40s, have at it and best of luck to you. I have suffered from depression, and I'm happy for you if you haven't. Just keep in mind that neither Asperger's nor depression means you can't succeed. I've done pretty well with both.
