I am in a sort of depression because I have realized that learning social skills will only get me so far with "normal" people. The only people I have really connected to have been more like me.
Most of my interests are very solitary, reading, crafts ( I am pretty good figuring out mechanical things), played a lot of board games when younger, but I am pretty flexible in new, but related, interests because I LOVE to learn new things. I have tried art classes but they are full of nice but very nt people. I am open to picking up new interests that let me be around others.
I live in Rhode Island if anyone has any groups to suggest.

Good luck! Smile I'm not too eloquent tonight so I apologise in advance for a perhaps scattered response. Razz

Have you ever thought of a physical activity, or something very structured, like martial arts? That way everyone's doing something, you all have something to talk about and everyone's 'meant' to be doing something at a certain time.
I'm sure there are some board game groups, crafts groups or reading groups - I know there are plenty round where I live! A reading group may be especially good for you, because it often involves a discussion on the book being read, so that way you get to talk to others about an interest of yours where you're specifically meant to have a topic of conversation (so less "Umm, uhh... Good day?").

But all in all... People are people. It's okay to like whoever you like, and sometimes writing someone off because they seem 'too NT' (not saying you do this! I've just seen this a lot) could take away what could have been an amazing experience.

But I do understand, I've experienced this a lot. It can be very disheartening... D:

I have tried the book club thing and also took classes type stuff. I guess what I am trying to find are more people like me because I have reached the point where I can do the light social chit chat stuff but when I do that with most people I still feel such a distance.
