I am curious how many with AS who aspire to lead a life of Mindfulness, Cultivating a mind that clings to nothing, deals with a brain that often is prone to devouring facts, concepts, prone to black and white thinking and unhelpful obsessionality?

Hello Quaker,
You raise an important point. The mind that devours facts can be turned towards the teachings and practice of compassion. There it will find a calm harbour, which is both supportive and bright.
It is said that the difference between awakened pracitioners and ordinary folk, is not to be found in the arisal, but is found in the method of liberation.
When thought's and emotions arise, we remember, again and again, that they are impermanent.
We just need to remember this, over and over again.
Previously we may have experienced, day's, week's, month's even year's of down time. Now with this understanding that the energy of the arisal is impermanet- we recover quickly. This is compassion for both self and other
A nice saying came to mind last night.
"Good friends are like Angels. They remind us that we have wings when we forget how to fly".
I do not know who spoke these words but their spirit is wonderful.
I would like to encourage people on this tread to post about your experience. We all have something to offer, we are all human and on the spectrum. Lets make this a bright and warm place to come too.

Buddhism answers this descrition......If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism."

I am just somewhat exposed to Buddhism and find it very interesting. It seems to have an analytical quality to it that I like.
So far I have read The Compassionate Life by The Dalai Lama and Essential Buddhism by Jacky Sach. Some day I'd like to meet teachers in person to learn more. While I find the philosophical side to it interesting I'm not sure what I think of the more religious side dealing with things such as Reincarnation.
I would also like to understand more about Meditation from a teacher. |

Hello Videodrome,
No matter who the teacher is, check out their lineage.
If they have published books- read their books before becoming involved.
Just my opinion, but I think it is possibly better to make contact with ethnic Buddhist teachers. The living tradition is best to receive instruction from. Also an ethnic teacher that has experience living and/or teaching in the west.
