Seems like a lot of times she does not understand non verabl cues among other things and does not always stare in the eyes.

(possibly already been discussed...my apologies if I am kicking a dead horse....)

I believe so. She didn't start out that way, first season, but shows more and more traits all the time.

I would agree. She understands social issues only in an anthropological way. She just doesn't "get" it.

I think that initially the writing team of the show wanted a "quirky" character, but they soon realised that they could have a larger audience if they exaggerate her "quirkiness" so that it almost fits under the category of A.S. Due to her being a fictional character,I wouldn't look into it too much, but I think that it may be a possibility.

The same evolution occurred with Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory. Oh yes, her name is Temperance Brennan.

Apparently the creators of the show think so --> Link

But they're unwilling to "diagnose" her, probably because there's a hesitance to label someone who is obviously functioning as well as that with AS... even though, in real life, many Aspies do, especially in fact-based professions like science.

Here's an article about AS characters on TV shows, including Bones: LINK

Quote:
"Bones" creator Hart Hanson says he based Brennan in part on an Aspie friend, but the needs of a broadcast network like Fox to get as large an audience as possible meant he couldn’t come out and say that.

"If we were on cable, we would have said from the beginning that Brennan has Asperger’s," Hanson says. "Instead, it being a network, we decided not to label a main character, for good or for bad. But those elements are in there."

And here's an LJ discussion of the article: LINK

How odd that people keep saying that Bones more likely has alexithymia than Asperger's, when alexithymia is extremely common with Asperger's. Like, it's not an either/or.

I remember telling my mom about it. She laughed and insisted Zack was way more autistic.

I think that was meant to tell me "you're more like Zack than like Bones", oh well.
