Does anyone here get mistaken for a member of the opposite gender online? I have been mistaken for a guy so many times (both here and elsewhere) and I will have to admit that I have made that mistake with a couple of other members who shall remain nameless.

Thoughts on how we might be able to go about fixing that problem, anyone?

Well, you could encourage people to check profiles, but few will be able to remember what they read, or, i'm sure someone suggested once that as well as showing location, sex should also be displayed, of course, someone is going to feel compelled to type in "yes please".

some sites have those menues where you can choose your gender. I would hope they wouldn't limit it to just male/female...

Course they wouldn't, those at WP are Non-Discriminatory (not sure if that's a word) i'm sure "Dunno" or "Still Deciding" would be options.

I presumed you were a girl, as your avatar is a cat.

I don't know if I ever get mistaken for a man, I usually have female avatars but this one is neutral. I often get people's gender wrong until I get to know them, especially the newbies.

Gender is a state of body.
