You need to contact alex about it(theres nothing we can do) but as I stated previously I doubt heīll be up for it because changing your gender online can be done in less than a minute and making this section only accessible to a certain gender would attract far more males that dont care about this section but would be interested on finding out whats so special about the closed area.

I don't know how valid this argument is that one can easily change gender in the preferences and therefore circumvent such measures is, if this were implemented it surely would probably keep most of us men out (surely any measure would be vulnerable to some deception based measure) but I do wonder if similar protection should then provided for (or at least considered for) areas such as "LGBT Discussion" and "Adolescent Autism Forum".

Perhaps though an alternative change to the forum software might be the addition of option/s to hide certain areas from search results like the "View posts since last visit" feature, it wouldn't prevent active lurking, but it would make it much easier for men (like myself) to respect the privacy of areas such as this one and not accidentally read your threads by mistake.

I like this idea

And yeah I'm going to seem a little discriminative towards men because I've been beaten by them, sexually harassed and psychologically abused as well. Lots of verbal abuse from my own family. Things that most people would consider inappropriate. My distrust does not apply to all men, but I also have not met a lot of understanding men. The fact that most men don't even act like they understand why women want certain privacy has much to be said. Men who'd take the time to complain about a women's forum being closed to them would only prove my point.

Again Im just making sure the rules are followed and current rules allow males to post here.

If you want that to be implemented you are more than free to approach alex with the idea.

Itīs been suggested that we put some sort of moderation around here but apparently itīd have to be mainly done by me so Im not sure how comfortable youīd be with the idea.

Women's Discussion
This is a place where women can feel safe to be themselves. "Having a male gynecologist is like going to an auto mechanic who doesn't own a car."

Maybe the problem is more the description it's extremely misleading or maybe we need to have better defined guidelines of appropriateness towards the women's forum. An example is that if I were reading the kid's forum and they were upset about something that would be immature to an adult I would not post that I think their childhood issues are immature. I would not post at all but some people just don't get that. As long as we feel respected that's all that matters but it's hard to when guys "think" they're helping. Why not change the name to open women's discussion and make it clear it's not safe to talk about a gynecologist for some. Or make it so that the OP posts are not highlighted on the main page.

the problem with keeping the women's forum (or an applicable men's forum) exclusive is that the threads will not come up in google searches (like the situation for Adult Autism Issues and Member's Only Discussion), which will decrease traffic to the site. fewer aspie women would see WP come up in their searches and would be less likely to decide to join. of course, the likelihood of that scenario is debatable, but WP comes up very high in google searches and depends on advertising revenue to continue to exist, so anything that could decrease traffic is unlikely to be approved by the site founder.

i think that the public nature of the forum is a good reminder that everything we post on here can be seen by other people, and we can't really control who sees it. WP is ultimately a public forum by default, and we need to keep that in mind.

one other thing i'd like to add is that: yes, the description of the forum does not indicate the content is public BUT if you read the Announcement that is stuck at the top of this forum you can see that (respectful) men are welcome here. it's a good idea to read the announcements at the top of every forum before posting. here is the announcement:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt141113.html

since the forums are open to the public by default, it is redundant to post a description stating the Women's forum is public. the only forums that have any applicable note are the closed forums as they are different from the default. however i do think that the words "This is a place where women can feel safe to be themselves" is a bit misleading as many women do not feel safe speaking about personal topics in a public environment. on the other hand we do try to keep this forum respectful and supportive for women specifically, so the description is maybe speaking to that goal.

Actually, the line I found more misleading was: "Having a male gynecologist is like going to an auto mechanic who doesn't own a car".

(And on unrelated note, I actually prefer male gynecologists).

(My reaction to that line is "but why would you want someone who owns a car to fix your car rather than the theoretical best auto mechanic who happens to have reasons to not drive")

That's probably the main problem
Maybe we just need a new description of what the women's forum really is. A place for women who feel comfortable talking about feminine related topics openly with the rest of the WP community.
I think my frustration is more the fact that I feel I'd been mislead by the description of the forum.

I haven't read completely through all the posts here; but I suggest simply stating women's issues thread and removing the completely unnecessary reference to gynecologist.

Apparently they were given a chance and it turned into a heavier adult section(and most threads at adult are already against the rules in one way or another but we try to overlook them) so alex decided to delete it and doesnt seem keen on the idea of bringing it back.

Huh? Care to explain (with an example)? I don't want to break the rules, and I enjoy adult forum.

A wasnt there at the time so I cant speak but from what Ive heard there were some issues with some members linking to porn sites if Im not mistaken and alex is very clear about that.
If any of the members that were there at the time can give me a more or less accurate time of when it happened I can try to see what was said at the mod section about it.

As for the rules:
* Do not create multiple similarly themed topics; please combine them into one topic. (There are about 5 topics on adult about asking a member a question, two threads for random thoughts...)
1.Unacceptable content includes swearing; racist, sexist, homophobic language; behavior intended to provoke or belittle other members; violent or sexually demeaning content; sexual fetish; and discussion of excretory function. Posting graphic images or videos of people or animals being harmed is prohibited.(There goes more than half of the current threads on adult section)

Well that doesnt surprise me much. However arent there certain rules that the guys cant post that kind stuff except the adult forum. Or u guys cant moderate it that intensely. If it serves no useful purpose then the guys shouldnt have there own section.

Yeah that joke isn't all that funny and kinda confusing. I think that's what confused me anyway, and posting in your topic that guy's opinions are not going to be related enough to be taken seriously in certain regards is a good idea.
