I have a very small mouth, and I f*****g hate it. It makes me worry that I look unattractive or quaint because everyone else I know have larger mouths. I'm starting to panic because if I had a bigger mouth my smile wouldn't be so goofy and wouldn't look so false. I am jealous of everybody else for having a larger mouth, it makes me feel like I might look funny and abnormal and deformed, and it makes my teeth look bigger than what they really are. I'm literally in a panic lately because I've geen taking more notice of other people's physical features and they've all got better mouths than me and I've been crying my eyes out every night because of it.

Do you or anyone you know have small mouths or am I just deformed?

I have a small mouth and thin lips. I guess it makes me look a bit more 'masculine' than having full, pouty lips - but I'm beyond caring about that. I figure that I AM a bit masculine, so looking it is no bad thing. I used to get weird obsessive dislikes of my body parts, though.

I don't think I've said this before, but you remind me of me when I was younger in lots of lots of ways. I'm very high-functioning but in some ways that makes life even harder for me because people expect more from me than I'm capable of. At the same time, I've always been desperate for independence and to achieve something for which I could respect myself. I used to want to be more 'normal', too...but realised very early on that it wasn't going to happen. It still bothered me up until a few years ago, actually.

Not so much that, I would just prefer a smile where you can see like at least 7 teeth, just the bottom half of the teeth. That's what I'd like. My smile is ugly and makes me look ret*d. You can see the whole of my two front teeth, and part of the tooth either side of the front teeth, so all together that's 4 teeth you can see when I smile, and you can see my gums at the top of my teeth too. I don't like that look but I can't do anything to change it. I really don't know why it has to be me. I'm born with the brain I didn't want AND the look I didn't want.

It is better to forget about things you have no chance of changing.

Easier said than done.

At least you don't have a whopping huge mouth like Cameron Diaz, or a way too teethy grin like Julia Roberts. Some how they've managed to be idolized by some, despite their obvious cosmetic defects.

So, take the time to have a look at their mouths. This will hopefully shift the focus off of your mouth.

I'm sorry if my reply is kinda out-of-place here, but the ideal Chinese beauty is supposed to have a mouth that is as small and red as a cherry. According to a Chinese old wives' tale, females with large mouths (I'm one such female) tend to bring misfortune upon their husbands. If you harbor thoughts that you are "funny and abnormal and deformed", it's probably because your culture views larger mouths as beautiful. If you were born in ancient China, you would probably appreciate your small mouth. :) (Nowadays, the Western ideal of beauty seems to be the universal ideal.)

Point number one: You should watch the English language " Alyonna Show" on the Russia Today (RT) network ( usually available on most cable next to the BBC and Al Jazeera).

Its hosted by Alyonna Minkowski- a young svelt brunette female vesion of Jon Stewart who does politcal commentary.

Last night while watching her,and fantasizing that I was locking lips with her- it occured me how small her mouth is. You can only see maybe three of her teeth at a time at most. yet her small, slightly pounting, lips dont bother me at all.

I thought of this post.

So if you want to see a charismatic hot woman with a small mouth- check out the Alyonna Show. .

Point number two: Subsititute "mouth" with "nose" and my story is exactly the same as yours. I was the opposite of all those folks like Tori Spelling and Micheal Jackson who get nosejobs to ruduce their nose size. I was born with the same little turned up nose that Micheal Jackson ended up with after decades of serial plastic surgery .And I alwys yearned for a longer nose! I guess the grass is always greener.

So getting obsessed about some body part is a common neurosis to fall into. But someday youll realize that the feature you have is right for the face and bone structure you have. Grafting-say- Angelina Jolie's- mouth onto your face would look as rediculous as grafting Micheal Doublas's nose onto my face would look.

People are always telling me I have Julia Roberts smile. When I was younger I used to get anxious because I thought my lips were too big. I don't worry so much these days.

I don't think there's a hard and fast rule as to what type of mouth is attractive, it's very much a personal preference thing. I'm sure many people are turned off by large mouths and big lips, and find small mouths very attractive.

My nose is average-sized but it's slightly large at the top between my eyes because my sinuses are slightly deformed to what they should be, and so mis-shapes the nose a bit, but it's hardly recognisable to the naked eye, only if you feel around. Sometimes when I have a cold my nose looks bigger because my small sinus tubes can't take the load (so I don't want to get colds if I can help it! :D )

But I don't get so self-conscious about that. To tell you the truth, I never notice what shapes and sizes people's noses are. I notice more their eyes (because of eye contact) and also the shape of their face (because when I look at a person I can see the whole face and not the details, except the colour of the eyes). So hopefully that's what others can see too.

But I always fear that people judge me against my facial features. I always used to have a monobrow, and I've only just learnt that all women ''must'' pluck their eyebrows otherwise they will be considered ''bloke-ish''. So now I've suddenly gone all mad over my eyebrows and I'm debating whether to have them done at a beauty parlour or not. But it's not fair - plucking eyebrows hurts, and why should we put ourselves through pain just to avoid breaking a silly social rule? It drives me mad!

Honestly, I wish people would just stop trying to look like someone else. What makes us different makes us beautiful. But I guess the plastic surgeons have to make their money somehow.

Nobody likes the way they look unless they are vane. We'd all like a thinner face, a smaller bum, blah blah blah because the marketing men tell us we can have such things if we give them our money for their stupid products. Ignore them, you are smarter than that. Instead of wanting a small mouth stop beating yourself up, be nice to yourself and want instead simply to be happy. That bears no relationship to the size of your mouth. No smile on earth is ugly. You know its what is inside that matters.

There are some things we can change in life (basically our attitude) and many others we cannot change. Celebrate your strengths, find a few good friends, love your family and enjoy your special interests. Tell the rest of the world to f**k off if they are being dumb, stop draining yourself. Your attitude is 50% of your problem, the other half is other people. Once you truly believe the unimportant ones can go f**k themselves you will be free of all this self deprecation.
