Well sh*t.
I am enrolled in program that I know I can succeed at (eventually) but I've been out of school for ages and have forgotten some very basic things, let alone the more complicated things.
CAN YOU HELP ME?
lol.
I'm just taking practice tests and I can learn these things quickly ONCE I understand them and won't forget them( for a number of years, anyway) but I have no idea what the *actual* f*ck this question means:
4000+3300000 in scientific notation=?
I understand X to the power of bla bla bla and all of that, bu thtis concept is elduding me.
Any help would be appreciated.
3.34 x 10 to the 4th power is the option that looks correct to me after reading a short description of how to figure this out. |

Looks right.
Keep in mind that terms can be +-*/ while in notation form, which gets a bit screwy. The thing to keep in mind there is the power. _________________ When I allow it to be

Ok, ty for your help.
I'm not quite getting it but I had ot move on and take the rest of the test. scored 70% and i'm going to review the questions i missed tonight, BUT, I have one more.
Got this one wrong:
51-6/3+6
Am I supposed to follow PEMDAS or something?
LOL, please forgive me but it's been YEARS and I was always just OKAY in math.
I got 55, I just did it in order, I know the answer is 55 but I don't understand how to get it. |

That is right.
scientific notation is not as helpful for addition as it is for multiplication and division

Let's see... Applying MDAS, it's be 51-(6/3)+6, which = 51-2+6, and there are a number of ways to get to 55 from there.
Yes, I believe it's parentheses, powers (exponents), multiplication, division, addition and subtraction...
Thanks for the flashback.
Happy New Year!
