I thought that might be the case, especially since sex often hurts me, too. Bu my gynecologist(s) say everything's fine (and I'm actually fine with the gyn examination - I don't find it painful or even embarrassing). So I don't know.

I guess it's a sensory issue.

I used tampons for years with no problem. But now reading this thread and only imagining that dry cotton thing trying to "slide" in there ... it makes me feel itchy and ... no I dont't want that again. I have for some time been using mooncup, of which I could write a long sincere promotional text any time Smile

But I'm not sure if that would be better if you feel things in places most women don't. Mooncup has much bigger circumference on the top, but smaller at the bottom compared to tampon. I'd say its about the same height but goes deeper up because it fits around the protruding bottom part of uterus while tampon just goes that far. I think mooncup fits much better with the anatomy in there but removing it is more difficult. It might be especially difficult if you tend to be tight. But I recommend google about menstrual cups, see what you think of the shape of them in regards to what you know about your own body.

(Short promotional part too: mooncup (or probably any menstrual cup) for me has these good properties: no need to carry spare amount of suppies with you that could end too soon or drop from pocket in inappropriate situation; no problem of where to discard used tampon/pad when there is no junkbin in bathroom; can be emtied less often than tampon must be changed; no drying effect; as much as I know no risk of toxic shock syndrom; bit less waste onto this planet.)

I have trouble with anything penetrating my vaginal area. I also have trouble getting tampons "seated" correctly. Or maybe it's my body, automatically rejecting the foreign object. IDK. They do burn when they're not positioned right. I don't even like anything more than panty liners down there to be honest. It took me a long time to learn to put in a tampon correctly. Worse, my periods got to be so bad, I'd have to use a minimum of 3 or 4 tampons at a time, plus a heavy duty pad. It was making me crazy because I can not stand the sensation of blood soaking my skin or clothes. I also hate the sensation of putting in even one tampon. But when I used to bleed enough to make a bathroom look like something out of a gory murder scene, I felt I had no choice. Depending on the covering material or if it's scented, the pads also irritate me. I hate the plasticy feeling ones & the scented pads gave me a major allergic reaction. There's nothing worse than a crotch that burns & itches continually. I am completely non-functioning at that point due to total & complete sensory overload. Looking at the Vaginismus symptoms, it appears to be my main issue. I don't know why...but it is what it is.

Thankfully I have few periods anymore. I couldn't be happier. I don't need pads, can't use tampons (horribly painful to remove as the fibers bond with the walls), so menopause at least gives me that as some relief from being female. I can get by with just panyliners. Yay me!

I don't think I could use a mooncup. I'd have a lot of trouble getting it in and out. I only use tampons with applicators and wouldn't want to be digging my fingers in there to get it in and out. I have problems with penetration.

Tampons are very uncomfortable. I have never even heard of a mooncup. I just stick to pads even though it is pretty messy.

I use tampons all the time. Mainly because I CANNOT STAND the sensation of stuff DRIPPING out of there. I'd rather pull a full tampon out and put another in there. Fortunately insertion's not a problem with an applicator, and I don't hurt more if a tampon is in.

I'm 28 and I've still never used a tampon. Haven't even thought to try them before.

Never been in a situation where they'd be more effective than pads...other than swimming. You can wear tampons swimming right?

I dunno, I'm such a noob Razz

I never used a tampon except twice for only short times because I'm a bit paranoid of TSS and a teacher had her best friend die because of it and she is afraid as well and she will only use them when she has to and only for maybe 4 hours maximum instead of the recommended 8.

I use a Keeper. I am a Dagorhir fighter which is basically involves me dressing all medieval and swinging foam weapons. It can be pretty intense and despite how historically period (no pun intended) pads are, I need something better, but I wish I would have a cup with more capacity like a lunette or a diva. I just clean it out more often, but it is so comfortable, sometimes I forget.

I hated tampons for years. Then I suddenly got sick of pads and tried one of my girlfriend's Kotex regular size tampons and now that's all I use. I read about sea sponges (Jade and Pearl sells them) and am curious to try them.

I hate tampons. I tried using them once but I freaked out. Now I just stay with using pads that have wings. My period is rarely heavy so pads work fine. I'm very sensitive there and tampons are very uncomfortable.

I love the silicone mooncup... sometimes especially 1st day of my period I don't like to have anything in me because I'm so sensitive to everything (I stim like mad) but it's better than even the cloth pads so I bear it and for the rest of the cycle, it's wonderful; I've even forgotten about it for a day (oops)

I've recently stopped wearing tampons after wearing them for over a decade. They make me nervous and can feel quite uncomfortable sometimes. I always feel like they're hanging out, but they never are. I despise pads as well, but I've grown to like them better than tampons, I think. Pads make me feel itchy (like I'm allergic), and stick to me and make me feel gross. I did try disposable cups for a while and though I liked them better than tampons, I found them hard to get out. Confused

I also have an issue with feeling discomfort during sex. I'm married, so it happens Wink but often not without pains and always a bit of discomfort. I've been to doctors/gyn's about it and even had exploratory surgery, but no one could ever tell me anything conclusive. My doctor recommended a therapy routine in case I had vaginismus, but it never seemed to do anything.

I've decided I'm just too sensitive "down there." If I can be blunt, even when enjoying sex to orgasm, it often feels like there is too much stimulation and it is borderline painful. Insertion hurts as well, as I can feel everything as it happens (kind of hard to describe, I don't know how to get what I mean across).

I never had a problem with them but they don't protect me from any bloody accidents because I sometimes bleed through them. So i was toilet paper or a pad with it. At first i was putting them in wrong when I started to use them and once I figured it out, they leaked less.

I have started to try those soft cups and they work good. But they are expensive.

Ugh, it just smells soooo much down there if I use pads now, so I perfer tampons. I just hate it when I insert it wrong, and I'm hiding my agony until it's time to change it Sad
Any brands you recommend that has an applicator)? I'm finding the ones I'm using (something to do with Pearl? The one where it expands in you DX) hard to get in right without pain. I've had maybe 2-3 times where it wasn't painful. But I like how it's clean down there.
